Probably won't last very long though, as a part of this includes Google ceasing operations in China.

Know anyone Chinese who can confirm that guess?

The censorship was part of the deal of Google opening offices/placing some servers there, according to what I've read. So, going back on that seems like a likely way to get booted out of the Great Firewall of China.

Yep.  Funnily enough, they don't know either.

It worries me that China is getting so bold about making these cyber-attacks. Their attempts to deny involvement are pretty much a joke... it also worries me that we (by 'we' I mean the governments of all developed nations) are not making any sort of response. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that these are aggressive actions from a foreign government.

A foreign government that largely relies on American consumerism to survive, no less.

Do note these actions seem to be on Chinese sites, so no aggressive actions anybody can book them for.

Well, this is hardly the first time they've pulled this crap.

Security researchers said they have discovered software capable of stealing information installed on computers in 103 countries from a network that targeted government agencies.

The software infected more than 1,200 computers, almost 30% of which were considered high-value targets, according to a report published Sunday by Information Warfare Monitor, a Toronto-based organization.

WASHINGTON -- Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.

The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven't sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.

There are tons of these types of incidences. Just search google/google news.

You think the country that secretly executes thousands of people a year would never stoop so low as to hack websites?

Once, you could venture outside of the DF part of this forum and still expect people not to act like d-bags. Now you get Something Awful-esque smarmy remarks that aren't even worth properly responding to half the time.  :-\

The market they had before Google tried to enter the market? Baidu was the biggest loser of Google's entry into China.

'Course, it won't matter, because Google holds all the cards and China will cave.

It would not surprise me in the least if the United States government wasn't working at ways of hacking, controlling, etc. websites, and I don't doubt that if they knew of a way to hack into the Chinese power grid they'd jump on the chance.  Considering all the various things they got up to in the Cold War, after all... that's just what governments do.

If anything, China's being sloppy about it by getting caught.
