THATS SUICIDAL

the last time i tried filling a moat with magma , i got seven pages of dwarfs dieing in the heat , you might as well better use water

also , i am abondoning the statue challenge , the dwarf diplomat decided to walk right into the middle of a goblin ambush , and the human diplomat does not have many different kinds of ore for request

This is my first time playing with pumping magma so there were a few things I didn't know about that. My pumps deconstructed, the (marble) blocks in them having evaporated, and my Professional Mason, Proficient Building Designer is running around with her pants on fire.

I do know how to fix the problem and I don't expect any further causalities.

I now must make a magma moat......

Anyway you have to use obsidian mechanisms and block and stuff, steel too, and maybe bauxite but dont go with that last one check the wiki.

Would making the magma 2 z-levels down instead of one for the moat be safe?

ZeSpy, you can be cheap and make a silver nugget statue then a silver statue. But if your not then make a dwarven washign machine like this

______##_______
____         ______
       \###/

at your entrance so they wash off all that grim and dirt.

Obsidian melts, I am pretty sure.  Otherwise magma-safe stone would never be an issue.  Also, moat probably killed folks for reasons like falling and making magma mist.  I don't think there's any danger from convection.

I keep thinking glacier fortress would be fun, but it always ends up as cave layer fortress.

why would obsidian, which forms around magma, be melted by it?

In RL, Obsidian is a form of cooled magma, so that makes sense.

In DF, I dunno.

A fortification with an archery-tower and surrounding lava-filled moat has been constructed as demanded.
Two dwarves were lost to the mercy of the magma during the filling of the moat, their sacrifice was not in vain.

During its construction the fortification has already held up against several goblin ambushes as well as a wandering dragon.
The population is now 161 dwarves, and includes a countess, her consort, hammerer and the rest of the common nobility.

I request another level 4 task.

WE NEED MORE PARTICIPANTS! 2 MORE UNTIL WE CAN START!

lvl 4 task, Decice on a logo for your fort and use a noticable stone such as microline, kimberlite, olvivine, or something else to create that logo somewhere on the map.

Bump, because we need more participants.

Micro102: Maybe put "still seeking willing subjects" or such in the thread title.

Also:

That was no difficulty 4 task, more like 2, and that only because I couldn't figure out why my forges were left unworked. (I had accidentally forbidden the stone they were built from.)
So until the real game starts, a level 9 task it shall be.

Oh, logo... right. I'll figure out something. "Wheelshocked" does lend to some modern logocrafting. The cliff thing is harder, since my fortress is located below a wetlands plain, the surface height difference is just 1 so it'd be more like a hole in the ground... or of course constructed, but that's more like a tower than a cliff then.
I can make all the green glass you'd ever want, but a cliff, that's not a real option.

O yeah your Stonesense pic was pretty flat....OK then, The butchering of animals is not allowed for 3 years :serious face:. For every animal killed, intentional or otherwise, a dwarf must be killed as well.
