Ok, so at work while extremely bored and exhausted I had a good idea. To start this thread.
What its about; the recent news that New Zealand has adopted a form of internet/mobile communications monitering had me think; exactly how many countries had these forms of internet restrictions and where are they?
So, what I propose is that we gather as much factual (and useful) information relating to internet rights, post them here and decide on what status we should colour in a country. This is a long term project mind you, so don't expect it to be amazing to begin with.
The rules:
1. Everything has to be sourced, up to date and of usefulness. For example, we would like to hear from you about a country your living in that has laws that restrict any sort of internet activity. Or just information on other countries. With newspaper articals/videos, leaked government files and stuff... basically anything you can get your mitts on legally.
2. Don't bicker about anything, this is a forum-wide project.
3. Constructive critism only please, if you have something mean to say don't say it at all.
So how I propose the system works: Each country will be coloured in in turn according to the severity of internet restrictions, using the ROYGBIV system. Starting with
Blue then moving down to
Green,
Yellow,
Orange and then finally
Red.
But what I get stuck with is what the colours should represent, my initial thoughts were that it could be something like, Blue is where theres no internet specific laws, green there is some banning illegal file sharing, yellow could be something like active campaigning by government to increase restrictions (may already have censorship laws, ip blocking)... I'll need your lots help on this one.
I plan to colour in this lovely
map.
So... thoughts?
