I have a few swords, then again I'm in the martial arts and performing biz.

The main point about guns is unfortunately that guns, unlike swords, are quite good at killing lots of people who have little chance of fighting back or running away. Before some of you argue everyone should carry a gun and we'd all be safe, think about how often you get mad or other stupid people get mad for no reason.

Do you really want those people you know are stupid owning guns?

This is the sad state of things. I would like to own a gun (I've had a gun pointed at me a few times before) but at some point I have acknowledged that people will die, people are dying, because of idiots with guns. As a society there will be a time when we have to trade freedom for safety. I don't like the idea either, but when we're older and seeing kids and friends and family gunned down in the streets, something will have to change.

Where I live I can't own a gun at all - unless I join law enforcement. We need better gun control at the very least, so that crazies and criminals can't get guns.

That's actually a valid point of view in the southern parts of my country, where people get killed almost every day. Not over crime, though, but over blood feuds or politics. So I guess it's not the same thing.

Not in the case of a blood feud, no, because that'll just add fuel to the fire.

That's alright, if we all return fire, by the time we stop the blood feud will be over.

In America, every day we can see people running other people off the road or getting pissed just because someone cut them off on the highway. These people can't deal with other people, and as populations get larger, there are more crazies, despite being a low percentage of the population. If those people had guns we'd all be living in a permanent state of Oakland/Chicago/Detroit.

Every few days around those cities people are shot over something absolutely retarded.

EDIT: Thinking about it some more. Another big difference with martial arts and weapons is that they require some level of discipline and often years of conditioning. I don't think anyone here knows how hard it is to physically... physiologically run someone through with a weapon right in front of them. There is some difficulty with pulling the trigger on a gun too; but there's definitely an easier "point and click" aspect without needing to see the life leave the body of the victim.

True, unless you go to somewhere like Afghanistan where every man and his dog is armed and people get shot all the time for rediculous reasons. Like "He looked funny."

I don't think Afghanistan and America are really in the same category for the purpose of discussing gun control.

No, not really. Afghanistan has some pretty major social and economic issues that America fortunately lacks.

On the other hand, America has it's own slew of customised social and economic issues for that personal touch!



Actually; i do have one semi-serious point. If everyone is running around with Assault Rifles, how do you expect the police to, well, police? We'd need to issue them tanks.

Yeah, we only care about women and children, no one cares about gangbangers. Those people being shot in the hood totally deserved it for being gangbangers when they had no education or money to escape a cycle of poverty, violence, ignorance, and drug abuse.
