I recall General Eric Guy having been a pretty usual character. Average intelligence, leadership, potential. Overall basic person. Generic guy actually.

Since no one's apparently going to tell the story of Chuko Liang or whatever, he was well known for pulling crazy strategies out of the air, and when another general attacked his city with a far superior force, he left the gates open and sat on an archway playing the crazy Chinese guitar.  The enemy general saw him, knew something was up, and to protect his army from whatever was about to happen marched right back out the gates.

What was Liang planning?  Nothing.  He was trolling them, and they fell for it.

I found the same story in my copy of On War, except it had Liang and some of his soldiers sweeping and cleaning the streets. Crazy indeed.

I suppose Custer deserves a mention for being the least capable general ever. Anyone mention Sherman and his march to the sea yet?

No, but Sherman took it way over the top. Seriously, railroad ties around trees so that they couldn't use the metal or timber?

A truly Dwarven way to wage war. If he had magma, you know he would've unleashed it on the Shenandoah.
