Kobold Armor
« on: January 11, 2010, 07:30:46 pm »

Heyyy, started a kobold character and got to....about 3000 in throwing and 5000 in wrestling but he's still next to naked with a steel shield and an iron longsword.  How can I get my cute little bugger some sweet digs that'll deflect arrows and whatnot.  This is also in about year 18 of my world since I wanted to create a mythological koboldy guy who went around smacking dragons through walls and stuff.

There's no way to get real armor unless you mod it into their raws and then regen.  I'm going to test a theory soon, though.

Would that theory be retiring the kobold, modding dwarves to lack the [stout] tag and be size 5, making some steel armor in fortress mode, abandoning, and then taking the kobold adventurer over the abandoned fortress in search of the armor? That could work.

[stout]

Oh, so that's what makes goblin armor too narrow for dwarves? I thought it was the amount of fat (dwarves got 3, goblins 2).

There's also [NARROW] tag on goblins.

Could I possibly slaughter a child and steal it's clothing and make it fit?

If you've modded it in, yes.  If you're using a mod that makes goblins narrow, sure.

In vanilla DF, they're normal width.

That's my theory.  Unfortunately, I got too caught up in killing giants with my copper spear to test it.  Giants are great for training weapon skills, with your starting no-quality copper spear.  Just gouge their eyes out, then stab them until they pass out from pain.  Sneak or train some other skill until they stand up again, then start stabbing again.  Just make sure you bring lots of food and water.

You could playfully chuck rocks at a wall until he gets back up. It would be completely in-character, I suppose.

Yeah, just checked, it's the elves who have narrow tag. Never mind then.

Hm, it appears that human children in adventurer mode wear size 7 clothing.  Their inventory appeared "large" to both a kobold and a gobbo.  So much for that. :(

I guess all you can do is kill other kobolds and take their stuff, which is horrible. :(

You might be able to retire in a town/dark tower/fortress, visit it with another adventurer, and then load your kobold again.  I'm not sure, but that may give you a set of armor.

I think I ended up in Steel Armor when I retired in an Orcish fort, so that could work.

Try retiring in a dwarven fort, see what happens.

Maybe orcs give you steel armor because they don't have any other kind of clothing?
