Blood god is REAL?!?!
« on: January 10, 2010, 11:57:56 pm »

My fort was having a terrible time, not a lot of immigrants, Harpy randomly flying around killing dwarfs one by one, and we are having a food stockpile problem. then out of no where, GOBLIN AMBUSH! So all I had was a rookie speardwarf and a fisherman drafted as a crossbowmen.

I THOUGHT I was going to lose, so I figured i mess around a while, so I demanded the butcher to butcher the rest of the animals while i watch my military die. Now here is the weird part. Every time a animal struck down message appeared, all my dwarf wounds were healed and they went in martial trance. When all the goblins got hit, the dwarfs did not kill them they just badly wounded them enough where they ran away and the goblins are bleeding all over the place. but when they all left, the butchery effect did not work anymore.

Is this Armok realizing I deserve some respect, or some random RNG going on here? ???

...well, strange things are buried in the game.  If your fortress sticks around for long enough (say, fifty years or so) constructed walls start growing moss.

Yeah, he bothered with moss.

I wonder if he did put that easter egg in...hmm, must try next time I have a chance.

HEY, you should try my Dwarfletter tileset...it's pretty.
I make games, too

well first, for this to be regarded as true it needs to be replicated or have some proof. But if it is true I believe you may have just violently unbalanced the game for us all. In a good way.

Also, what version?  I'm definitely still skeptical, but curious enough to want a little more detail.

Or, perhaps we could try to replicate it?

I'm currently recovering from a nasty goblin attack, so I don't really have the chance to atm.

Yes it will: we can view the announcement logs at least.

They don't. My announcement logs go back to when my bookkeeper first became a clerk, so there is at least 16 years of information in mine.

The logs are actually saved in /gamelog.txt, I think - and that can be faked, with a little difficulty.

I don't suppose you have an earlier save, Meanmelter?

How does the game differentiate between announcements from one region to another? The only notification that the announcements are from different regions is:
*** STARTING NEW GAME ***
** Loading Fortress **

No region name or anything supplied to identify what the announcement came from.

EDIT: Closed DF, deleted gamelog.txt, loaded DF and region, all my announcements are still there.
