What do traders do with useless goblin equipment?
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:01:58 pm »

Traders buy those 'narrow' armor sets you picked up off the slaughtered goblins from the last siege. They were mostly leather and cave spider silk.

What the hell do other places do with them? It's not like metal where you can melt into bars. Do they put them in museums or do they hold huge bonfires in celebration of one less gob?

Maybe they sell them back to the goblins?  ???

The same thing they do with the skull totems, and the mountains of stone, bone, and plant fiber crafts.
Put them in shops for nobles with strange tastes to wander off with.

I have a count who insists on snagging Large-sized clothing, and a dungeonmaster who snags obsidian crafts like a kobold, and is often found bickering over obsidian scepters with the philosopher, who loves scepters.
It's getting to the point where I need to start churning out cabinets for them.

Step right up, step right up! Now, next on our display of curious things from far away are these clothing items! "Rags", I hear you say, but no! These are clothes from goblins! Aye, they're long gone from this place, but in the borderzones, they live - they live and they are as dangerous as you might think! Do you see these blood stains 'ere? That's dwarven blood alright!

So if ye ever want yer wee ones to keep quiet, show them these and have them know that the goblins will get little dwarflings what don't behave!

Then there're always lucky charms and who knows what else.

I eagerly await the next edition, when I can tear up goblin clothing for bandages and dressings.

The real answer, of course, is that they're obligated to buy anything you offer to sell them in classic video game fashion.  Stuff like narrow equipment is what is sometimes called "vendor trash", ie. totally useless for anything but being sold.  Of course, it's trash to the vendors too in this case, but the engine will not (as of yet) let them reject it.

They don't have farms or shrubs at mountainhomes. This is the only way they make cloth.

Its a cycle!

Goblins: Bring armor to Fort
Dwarves: Kill Goblins easily

I'm afraid the reply referring to the nobles at Mountainhome is probably closer to correct.  Remember that Mountainhome has so many nobles that they can send you new sets every year, if need be, or at least every few years.  All of these excess nobles can only be kept happy by huge collections of absurd items, just like your very own nobles in your own fortress.   :D

Traders already have that version, which is why they're interested in the narrow GCS clothing.

Well, the humans could conceivably use the stuff to dress their children, as goblin stuff is normal width (it appears NARROW to the STOUT dwarves).  Even though that's both impossible in-game (as children are, I believe, size 5) and very creepy.

Hm.  I should see if a kobold adventurer can wear stuff from slaughtered human children, since they can't get real armor.

They don't grow pig tails. I guess cave spider silk would be legitimate, though.
The only place people grow pig tails is in fortresses.

Dwarf children wear full size dwarf clothing, so I really doubt a kobold could wear childrens clothing, and more importantly, they don't wear armor. So your kobold wouldn't be nekked, that's about it.

They do? Damn! I'll have to order it!

Also, Dwarf children don't wear clothes at all. Just a covering of vomit, water, blood, and mud.
