Turn Based Strategies are fun. And that's why I'm going to start one up.

A sci-fi TBS, it will encompass Sol, Alpha Centauri, and the Kepler Belt. Expect heavy combat and suspension of disbelief.

In the year 2352, a century after humanity had extra-solar colonies, peace has still not found humanity. There are multiple factions vying for control of planets, and insurgents are popping up constantly, not to mention the threat of pirates, who ply the trade routes regularly. To keep up with these threats, Governments and Corporations have gone out to Private Security Firms and Mercenary Corporations.

You and your comrades are recent graduates of the Fleet academy run by the Mega-corporation Hermsmann Manufacturing Ltd. Being skilled in the art of space warfare, you are given the command of a gunship, assigned to the supercarrier Ganymede, owned by the private security firm, ArsCorp. Prove you're worthy, and you'll advance in the ranks, given command of bigger and better ships, and possibly, one day, command of an entire battlefleet.

 You begin commanding of a Scimitar Heavy Assault gunship. Holding 2 missile banks, capable of firing a barrage that overwhelms most fighter shields, and multiple beams of death beam emitters mounted on turrets, it is fast, sleek, and somewhat armed to the teeth. It has an optimum crew of 8 men, with one officer on board.

Being a graduate of Command Academy, the Firm thought it would be wise to place a few men under your control. You won't have many, as the firm isn't willing to trust valuable assets to greenhorns.

You do, however, start off with a small crew of:
3 Engineers
3 Gunners
2 Bridge Officers

You have multiple types of crew at your disposal. You will need more and better crew for bigger ships, with capital ships holding hundreds of crew members, and having multiple officers.

Engineers- They obviously run the engine, and less obviously the shield generators. Fusion reactors are dangerous, you know.
Gunners-They load the guns and make sure everything's right with the weaponry. Needed for kinetic and missile weaponry to function.
Bridge Officers- The general category that does the firing of the guns, calculating firing solutions, checking shield strength, and keeping the ship functioning properly.

You can do the following actions while not in battle:
Repair the ship
Add field modifications
Address the ship (Make up your own speech to tell the crew, and you might just inspire them)
And more.

While in battle, tell me what you want your ship/s to do, and your ship/s will do it to the best of their ability.

You can suggest new actions as well.

Great, I have three people.

Flying in a corporate shuttle, you quickly move across the solar system. It takes you about 3 hours to get from Mars to Saturn. As you get closer to saturn, you see it's moo- wait a second, that's no moon! That's the United Earth Coalition drydock! Often leased out to corporations, this was where the Ganymede was built.

The Ganymede is currently docked to repair, and to pick up more cannon fodder new graduates from flight school and command academy. You three, Emperor_Jonathon, KineseN, and x2yzh9, are assigned to the 53rd Gunship Battalion.

The shuttle comes closer to the supercarrier. Even from hundreds of miles away, it still fills up the viewscreen. As you slide up towards the docking arm, you see scars of battle. Scorch marks, dents in the feet thick armor, and bright white paint scraped off to show the dull metal. You see thousands of tiny drones gathered around something in the lower side of the ship. A gaping hole, 50 feet across and 50 feet high, is being filled up by them.

You hear a Swooshing sound, as the airlock stabilizes. Grabbing your bags, you walk into a hallway. Cold and cramped, hundreds of people are walking to their respective destinations. Just as KineseN goes to ask for directions, an extremely helpful bright white light points towards the hangar bay. You begin walking to the hangar bay. Even at your brisk paces, it takes you 30 minutes.

When you finally reach it, you realize the scope of the vessel. The bay itself is at least a mile long, holding hundreds of gunships and thousands of fighters. You begin to realize it will take you a very, very long time to find your batallion, much less your squadron. Again, your luck holds out, as a bridge officer in a red shirt comes to retrieve you. Finally, each of you reach your respective vessels.

Unfortunately, you don't exactly have time to meet and greet with your crews. All hands, general quarters! This is not a drill! We have multiple ships on standard assault approach vectors! Scramble all fighters and gunships! a loudspeaker blares. You hear your commander start barking orders, and you quickly run to your gunship.

There are three ships available.
The Unyielding
The Vigilant
The Fearless

All have the same technical specs. It's really just for names.

After you choose your ship, choose what you want to do. Your Batallion will stay in standard formation until contact with unknown enemies. Then you will decide what to do.

So, post which ship name you want, and what to do when the battle begins.

Speech:"Alright crew, this is the real deal. You newbies are being put to the test, so don't let us down! This is your first battle, and I can tell you this, your not redshirts. We don't have thousands of you to pop in everytime on of you dies. Your not 'expendable', and remember that."

Pilot the ship for the Alpha Squadron forming up to defend the station.

No no, you misunderstand. You graduated from COMMAND ACADEMY. The only flying requirements is a 2 hour class that you slept through. If your pilots die, you can fly back to base, but that's about it.

Well, I managed to graduate command academy, but only barely. Now I'm the second-in-command of a gunship! My pappy would be so proud. I'll be good at this job, I'm sure of it.

My pappy was a janitor, my grand-pappy was a trash-barge pilot, and my great-grand-pappy was a therapist. Since I come from a line of folks who cleaned up other people's messes, I figured a command position was right up my alley.

I'll be arriving at the station soon, and then my first mission will start. I hope I don't embarrass myself in front of my crew.

With big fleets, it would be a bit of semi-autonomy. You get to tell what your ship to do, but you have to follow the admirals orders. Of course, we can't do that now, because you guys just have one ship.

Address the ship.

"Men. These fools before us challenge us to our dominance. Are they right? Are we weak? Are we full of fear? Show them wrong men, show them the name of our ship. Show them, and I'll make sure you get back to your family. Give up, run, and you'll show them that we are weak. Do that and I'll shoot you myself."
