Are TMs worth it? I was considering getting a TM as my main ship as a rapid response craft to jump in whenever any of my traders got into trouble. As of now I could filled it with two Novas and 2 M5s.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

I've had a TM serving in my fleet for ages, works quite well, I've used it as a personal ship, used it as a UT, used it to Refuel, Rearm and equip my capitals, basically its done almost anything under the sun, and I believe has even destroyed a couple ships itself, the OTAS Zephyrus is also a damn good looking ship, and faster then some fighters.

How does the Zephyrus stand up to the Paranid TM combat wise?

According to http://eng.x3tc.ru

More shields, more speed, more laser energy, more cargo and looks cooler.

Yeah UT is universal trader.  TM is a Military transport(Has a small bay for fighters), M7's are Frigates.  There's also M7Ms which are Missile Frigates, and M8s which are bombers.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

Bah, putting HEPT on my Nova fighters was a bad idea. Their ability to hit what they're aiming at is on par with a freaking stormtrooper so they usually run out of energy before they even hit anything. Anyone have any favorite weapons for their escort M3s?

*Edit*  PAC work great on the Novas but everything I can fit on my Zephyrus drains my energy in 4 seconds of sustained fire :l

Also, I can't seem to claim ships that my fighters attacked. Am I only able to claim ships when I'm the last person to score a hit before they jump ship?

*RAEGE Edit* IF I LOSE ANOTHER GOD DAMN NOVA BECAUSE THEY TRY DOCKING SIDEWAYS AND AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE I'M GOING TO LOSE IT, RARAGRARAGRAR

The red ball thingies, 2.3k range, superfast projectile. I can't remember the name, but they're awesome for anti-fighter and anti-missile.

They don't hit as hard as HEPT's, but they're real accurate and don't eat all that much energy, while still hitting hard enough to cause a reasonable amount of pain to M3's. They'll annihilate M3's and most M4's in seconds flat.

Do those weapons only damage the armor? Or both shields and armor? Because I find that 4 mass drivers on an Argon Buster full with ammo tends to shoop da whoop of every fighter. Even TS and TM's aren't safe. If you are patient enough (and have a collier ship somewhere), even larger ships wither underneath a massdriver barrage. Really brings back a WW2 feeling for me. A good thing only Split and Argon use them. But then again, I thought Teladi made an Energy Chaingun or something, also requiring ammo. But that couldn't bypass shields.

On the other hand, I know what weapon you are talking about, Neruz. Pulse Beam Emitters, yah? Not too shabby either. But I'll take a Split M3 and Mass Drivers instead. Tally ho!

Yeah, I actually made the switch over to mass drivers on my TM last night. Sadly only my front and back guns can fit them. I'm stuck using energy based guns for my main weapons.

I think Neruz was rather refering to the phased repeater guns. It's a bit slower and has similar damage than PBE, but with the range of HEPT (PBE used to have horrible range in Reunion, no idea about TC). Mass drivers are really nice if destroying the target is your goal and you don't mind the ammunition usage. Personnally, even when I could mass produce the ammos and keep a TM/TS/TL/Whatever nearby to ressuply my ship, I never use MD. Kinda annoying when you need to refill ammos in the middle of a fight.

PBE and PRG both go the opposite road doing much more damage to shield than hull. So these are a really good choice if you're hoping to capture some ships. Anyone using those should probably keep some other weapons on hand for situation where you just want to kill asap (usually MD or HEPT).

Problem is, I'm not sure if ships that are being shot by ships owned by you (but not piloted by you) bail out. I've never seen it happen. There's probably a script/mod to allow it, in any case.
Granted, I haven't had a successful bail in ages now. The ships that do bail end up eating flak while in the process, destroying ship and often pilot.

Do you gain reputation through automatic trading done by ships from your factory?

Because after shooting down some pirates, the Paranid finally allow me to dock on their stations and I would like to expand that relationship, by planting a factory in their territory.

Nope, only ship you are shooting at yourself have a chance to bail. I'm not sure if there is a script for TC allowing it however. I used to have bail signal extension installed for Reunion which made bailing both more frequent and irrelevant to who's doing the shooting. Also found NPC Bailing Addon (http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=219440) for TC. I haven't tried it myself, but the few comments I've read weren't to complaint which is usually a good sign.

Yup you do. In fact you even gain rep when races' traders buy from your factory, which is the safest way to raise rep with enemy races.
