Is their M3 class the 'Fighter' with around 20k shields? Cause if so, i have met them, and i tore through them like paper.

Seriously, they could have the worlds best ships, their lasors are pathetic.

Either you are using a mod that make changes to weapons, you are flying a M6 or bigger ship or you barely got scratched by them. Khaak ships suck and are only dangerous because of their lasers, not the opposite... at least in my version of the X-universe.

So why did you quote my post?

And only idiots who thought they were funny ever pronounced it 'cock'.
Sorry for being an idiot who thinks it's funny, but how IS it pronounced? I read "cock," my spaceship computer reads "car," and there's no R in Kha'ak. o_O

In other news, I'm having a blast flying a Harrier around and "acquiring" Pirate Busters.

Speaking of pirates, is there any way to join up with the pirates, or are they always hostile buggers feeding on every other confederation, including you?

X3:R limited experience here...
yes it should be possible to gain pirate rep. I don't recall the exact process. I seem to recall a few bulletin board smuggling missions, attacking police that engage pirates and trading contraband in a few of the teladi sectors. But its all really hazy in my head, I haven't played the game in a few years.

The best means to achieve pirate faction rep is to install the Pirate Guild 3 mod, which upgrades the faction in general and makes them act more logically. I do not recall anything about vanilla pirate rep, not sure if it is set as one faction, or if there are several minor groups that have rep.

Im only flying a Nova.

Since their lasors are instant hit, i could see large numbers being an issue if they actually knew how to aim, but their aim is laughable at anything over 2k distance, which happens to be my favorite engagement distance.

I worry about the giant plumes of flame that come out of Centaurs that 1shot me, not the Kha'ak and their wincy BZZT lasors.

I should really try out TC.  I bought it and X3 together a long time ago but never finished X3 so never got around to TC.  Sometimes I wish the game was even more like Farscape.  But then again I guess only the original was really that similar, and only in it's back story.  I still have trouble believing that was a coincidence.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When you hire AresCorp for escort services you get an escort! (Final fury mission)

We got the SotLM as the main escort ship, with the Shaman tagging along as an Escort carrier. We have the heavy fighters from blue wing putting up a fighter screen for the freighters, we got Green wing putting up a Combat Air Patrol over the Shaman. And we got the Heinous as the SotLM's escort and also serving as extra support where needed.

No losses for the Teladi freighters or AresCorp, though the Man At arms got a few scorch marks on his hull.

Alright space peoples, need some info.

1. What fighter has a great balance of speed, and shield/hull strength, and what sector(s) to get the ship (i only know about the Jaguar, like 512m/s and considered the best, but no idea where to buy the magnificent ship)

2. what the hell do formations look like and do?

Any information would be a great help.

Paranid ships tend to be the most well rounded ones. Split focus on insane speed, Teladi on cargo space, Argon on shields, and Boron on being crap, but looking kinda cool.

Paranid are my favourite ships, but the actual race can fuck off for all I care. It's hard to build your rep with them, they outright threaten until you do, even while you shoot pirates in their sectors. Their shipyards are in:
Paranid Prime (From Argon Prime - S, S, W, S, E)
Trinity Sanctum (S, E, E, S (this sector is pirate space, you might want to take a longer route), S, S, S, S)
Cardinals Domain (Follow directions to Trinity Sanctum, then; S, S (Teladi shipyard here), W, S (Split Shipyard), S, E, E, E).

Finally.
Have 1+ Million and want to buy a Plankton farm from the Boron.

Problem is, that I can't find the TS in their Sectors.
Do they even have one?

Actually, Argon ships are pretty much the true all-arounders. Paranid ships are more of a combat all-around. Their ships tend to be slightly faster and have stronger laser energy and regen, in tradeoff for slightly weaker maneuverability and a weaker cargo hold. There are exceptions.
Teladi ships tend to be incredibly tough but weak in the firepower. Strong hull, strong shielding. They do have large cargo bays though.

Boron are indeed rather hard to place. Each ship does something entirely different, and some of them seem like they just plain suck. I get a raider feel from their M5 and M7 though. Their M5 has the best laser recharge of all M5s and is not much slower than the Split counterpart. Their M7 equips the strongest weapons in the game and brings it in the form of ridiculous frontal firepower, well suited for sniping enemy capitals off of the galaxy.

Each sector with a shipyard has a TL of that race floating around in it. It might just be patrolling off in the distance. Look around, eventually you should come across it.

So I've got my my respectable fleet of of 5 UTs along with me and my 3 M3s. I've got around 8mil in the bank and I've torn.

Do I invest in a few stations? If so I'm open for suggestions on what good to produce and where to produce it.

Or do I invest in more UT's and bring my trading fleet up to 8 ships?

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Well stations tend to take a lot to set up and lag the sector their in, not to mention that unless you set up a 60 mil self-sufficiant loop you have to deal with resources.

So I vote just do UT's for now, at least until you have your own TL and enough cash to just go full complex.
