Doesn't the trading system extension let you trade remotely?  That is, without being in the ship you can open it's cargo hold and sell stuff / buy stuff at whatever station it's docked at?

I think that's what Rilder meant by "Trading System extension allows you to trade with other ships." Although "let you trade remotely" is clearer, especially with the TC addition of remote buy/sell commands.

Definitely time to upgrade, there is an upper limit to the number of Xenon L's i can take in my weeny Saber.

Since i have jacked that lovely Falcon with it's 8 weapons slots, i think i shall switch over to that.

As soon as i find some decent weapons to stick on it. Anyone know where i can locate some decent guns that are compatible with Falcons?

Like most M3, falcon can mount high energy plasma thrower (HEPT), which you'll most likely want to use. I wouldn't suggest mounting 8 however as HEPT drain energy like there's no tomorrow (and there's usually no tomorrow for the target  :D ). It's also a pain to hit M4/M5 with them, so some weaker weapon with faster projectiles wouldn't hurt to have. Not sure which weapons the falcon can use, but either phased repeater gun (PRG) or particle accelator cannon (PAC) would fit. Check your ship info to know which weapons it can use; there might be other more interesting choices. I can't help with finding them however, you'll need to explore and/or send a ship to remote buy them.

No matter what I suggest, you should try out the different weapons available. Preferences depend a lot on play style: many people wouldn't use anything but HEPT while I tend to avoid them as much as possible (I fail at shooting  :-[ )

There's always the banditry route. Intercept any transporters leaving the weapons factory that you want.

And I read that I have to assign 2 transporters to a factory.
Are these two then automatically controlled, or am I still able to give them orders to do some along the way trading?

Anyone can answer that one?

Hmm, some questions:

I bought the Gold Edition with both Terran Conflict and Reunion, which one should I play first? I've gotten through some of the simulations. I wanted to try the "Humble Trader" start or whatever's easy. Both games seem to run pretty smoothly on my laptop.

And, since this seems like a long game, are there some modifications I should install before I set out?

TS assigned to stations to buy/sell the resources/products will be fully automated. You can still give them orders, but it will cancel their orders concerning the station management. However, once they are assigned to a station (homebase), whatever they buy/sell will affect the station's fund instead of yours.

There's little reason to play X3:R if you have TC. There's a bit more to learn in X3:TC, but many things are also made more intuitive/user-friendly so the learning curve is pretty much the same. The only reason to play X3:R first, IMO, would be for the story missions; mostly the Bala Gi ones (latest patch) since the originals suck.

As for mods/scripts I can't recommend any for TC since I'm playing the vanilla game. I personnally prefer to start with vanilla and look for mods only to diversify a second/third game. Some mods/scripts are probably consider as must-haves by the majority of the X community, but no idea which ones. Browse on the S&M forum of egosoft if you're interested: that's the best place to look.

Everyone will have an opinion on this. For me the 'must have mods' are: RRF Race response fleets with race wars, Anarkis Defense system, Pirate Guild 3, and the ITS-PSCO1-Shawn cockpit mod. I love having cockpits, some would disagree obviously. The other mods deeply effect the game world, and you would do well to read about them on the official forums, I also use all of the recommended mods, which are listed in the relevant mod forum threads.

Need some financial advice on what to do with my first hand made million (Hooray ST ;D!)

I've got a few ideas, but not sure how much i could make/lose with each over time.

1. gain 50k more credits, buy Mercury Tanker, upgrade my current Mercury to ST so i have 2 ST's.

or

2. buy a SPP and set it up in Empires edge.

Anyone got some advice for a 2 day old pilot?

The game decides to throw 8 pirate ships at you 1-2 hours into the plot.

I was wondering on how to not get totally obliterated when this happens. Any advice?

Put off the plot. Build up your strength before hand, and regularly. If you know there is a big fight coming up, bugger off, make money, upgrade to a better ship, get wingmen, missiles, etc.

Alright. Two questions-

What do i need to do to make moneys? I heard something about auto-traders wich'd be cool.

How do i hire wingmen?

and finally, where's a place where i can install systems like lasers and missiles and stuff for when i get a better ship?

1) Auto-traders are expensive to set up, so my advice is three-fold.
Find a very low-cost power plant (16-19cr), and haul as many power cells as you can to the Argon home sectors, they always need plenty, especially home of light.
Loot can get you far, and don't be afraid of a little dickishness. Lure pirates/xenon into battles with the npcs, and have a trading ship nearby to scoop up the debris. Any abandoned ships are fair game too.
Once you get your first 150k, set up that auto-trader in safe zones. Any races excpet Split and Paranid are pretty safe, although Teladi space is can be a bit hairy, depending on the system.

2) You don't really hire them, just buy a new ship and fit it with navigation and combat chips, in addition to weapons and such.

3) Shipyards when you first buy the ship, then equipment docks afterwards. You can also buy from factories, but you have to be ready and willing to wait for the prices to come down.

I recently upgraded to a Nova and i also have my first automated sector trader going. The Nova has a turret, so i stuck an impulse ray generator on it for close-in anti-missile systems. I've got Mk2 combat software and given my turret the 'shoot missiles' command, but it doesn't seem to be actually doing anything in combat when i get missiels shot at me.
