Snails, wheat, cattle and energy stations are all good buys for first time players, but don't go there until you understand where to place them and can buy the proper haulers to sell the goods.

Bombs in space..ships have their own gravity so no, they would not need to work like missiles. Again, Star Wars TIE bombers are top down, dumb bomb dropping ships. They do not use torpedos. X's M8 is a heavy missile ship, which is fine. I still want bombs though.

I never got why they call M8 bombers when they only use missiles.

Wouldn't ,in space, a bomb and missile be basically the same thing?  Actually aren't missiles just bombs with propulsion systems?

Personally I think their called bombers because they are the the X3 equivalent of WWII Dive/Torpedo Bombers.

On the topic of my current game:

The ACCS Shaman (My TL Elephant) has been working Near constantly in Paranid space putting up factories around Dukes Domain, must of did like 7 Station construction missions in a row.  Made good money though and I'm up to 30 mil, about 30 more and I'm going to buy an M7M and start forming an Elite Marine contingent for boarding operations. (Actually the ACHS Lost Pride has been in BlackHole Sun training a group at the local military base, already)

Oh... are you still in the reunion missions? I don't want to be too spoilerific... but there could be issues during certain missions.

Awhile back, I tried the X3 demo, because it sounded like fun. But I COULDN'T PAUSE THE GAME, even to look around and try to figure out the controls. Each time I started the game, I was still trying to figure out the first thing about it, when pirates flew in and quickly destroyed my ship.

What kind of demo is that? I was willing to make an effort, but that demo was completely ridiculous. And frankly, if there's no pause feature in the game itself (where I can actually do something while the game is paused), it's not for me.

It's a real shame, because I've been wanting a space game. I'm getting a little tired of a steady diet of fantasy. Science fiction would be a nice change of pace.

IIRC the only way to pause was to bring up the menu.

No I'm playing X3 Terran Conflict doing station construction missions.  You know those missions you get from guys with the green blocks icon.

I never played through the Reunion plot, since I hate linear storylines. Its better to make your own story up as you go along. =3, I am trying the plots in TC but if I'm given a mission I don't like I won't do it plain and simple.

Also there is a pause in X3:R and TC, press the Pause/Break button on your keyboard, also unless you have it set otherwise alt-tabbing pauses the game too.

Right Status update. Still binging on station construction missions... building a fragmentation bomb forge in Aladna hill netted me 4 mil which is nice, now up to 45 Mil,  15 mil till I get my M7M. Pretty sure Ryel Durak (What I named my character) just collapsed on the bridge of the Shaman, after that. (Station After Station after station :P)

My sector trader keeps making negative profit for some reason and I can't seem to figure out why. Almost makes me want to get rid of it's escorts and tell it to fly off into Xeno space >:[

Sector trading isn't really worth cost for the micromanagement time it saves you. Universe traders however, espeically when combined with Adv. Nav satellites, can make loads. You could try telling it to run between a low price power plant (M-XL for best results) and the Argon home sectors, that's how I get the cash for a Nova at the start.

Sorry about that.

Target the ships and look at it's info (how to do this is pointed in the Controls menu, its been a year without playing X so I don't remember those), I believe you can press another key to get even more info about the ship.

Yes of course.
But the AI ships tend to have different names sometimes and you have to figure out what ship it is in the shipyard.

Another problem ist the equipment.
I bought a drilling laser, but I doesn't seem to fit on my mercury(missing slot I guess), nor on the hauler(too large equipment for such a small ship I guess) I bought.
So how am I supposed to know when a ship can equip this?
What's the slot name for drilling lasers?
And what ships have them?

Ok first off, to see what weapons can be placed on any ship: Target the ship, look at info (u), and scroll down to weapon mounts, it will show a color coded area with a list of what the colors mean. Each color is a different type of weapon.

Secondly, buy a TS "miner", for example Demeter Miner, Vulture Miner or Baldric Miner. Make sure you max out the cargo extension, which can be done at most general type stations, shipyards ect.

So- I can't seem to figure out how to really get rolling in Reunion. With the starting Buster...

Do I just toast space pirates in hopes that they abandon their ships?

Are there missions somewhere that I should be paying attention to?

Is there a certain trade route I should follow?

Any help is appreciated.

Starting out in the m4? dock at a bunch of different stations, make sure you pay attention to the buletin board for missions. You have a fairly large cargo space for an m4, so you can actually do some of the shipping and delivery missions. Fighting off kak invasions is a good way to get reputation, capping pirates is fun but there isn't much profit in it, but its the fastest way to get into an m3.

Naxza,

Combat is a hard road to make starting money. I recomend using a hauler to get trade cash first, I assume you have started the Reunion story line? If so you get a free transport, so use it, scrape together some credits and then do combat missions recieved from random stations, hitting whatever red blips you see on the side. The reason for this, repairs are hugely expensive and the buster is not that great. If you have the time and motivation, I would seriously consider trading you way into a newbie station, like energy or snails and then using the profits to buy a better ship before getting into serious dog fights. Or you can hope that a red pilot will bail and take a better ship, just as long as you have the credits to repair it, and yourself. They do not jump out of ships often, so it can take some time. Bust them down to about 15% hull, then plink away with a very low damage weapon, single weapon, to increase the chances of them jumping out.

There's this awesome mod somewhere on the Egosoft mod forums that lets do the Battlestar Galatica space combat. I can't seem to find it but it's somewhere around there.

Bah.
Tried mining with mosquito missles, since I would need to find a shipyard which sells miner ships first.
But you have to reverse park into every single ore piece?
Lame.

I think I rather buy another TS and do some more trading until I have enough credits to run some station.
