Yeah, I still have my saber on me, partly because it's damn good, partly because I have no idea what good upgrades are.

Meh, I ended up ditching my Saber when I was lucky enough to get a hold of a Xenon L. I don't regret it once bit. Of course, if you're not that lucky, it could be a while before you upgrade. :P

I did get flight software MKII, but all it seems to do is fire at the aim marker that appears when I'm 2km away from a ship, something I've been doing manually for a while.

Right now, I can farm for a Xenon L, given the plot mission spawns them again and again. It's just that every time I get one, I forget that I'm not invincible, neglect to dock, and find a new and exciting way to get blown up. I know better next time, but since weapons confuse me at the moment, I really have no idea what to fit it with.

PX? That's not an M3+, thats an M6. The LX is the M3+ for Xenon.

I never understood why people like the L. It's energy regen is less than most ships and it can't use Energy Bolt Chainguns (which are amazing for taking out big targets, bit of ammo but no energy consumption). It's not that fast either.

The Sabre is really fast, so most M3s are going to feel very, very slow. If you have about 2 mil for a Scimitar it might be a good ship, but you have to stick with the Terran weapons on it. It's fast and heavily shielded though, better than pretty much anything you can get from the other races. The only limitation really is you have to stick with Terran weapons, which is OK if you like them but I never did like them much.

I gave pretty much the same advice earlier in the thread, but another good ship is the Nova Raider. You can buy it just outside the Terran sectors in Omicron Lyrae (Argon sector) for a bit less than 2.5 mil if I remember correctly. It's a little bit slower and not as heavily shielded, but it can use lots of great weapons. I always put a couple phased repeater guns for most fights and some enerby bolt chainguns with ammo for the real heavy fights.

PRGs are Argon tech so you should be able to find a factory for them in Argon sectors. They are really great guns for most situations. The range is slightly better than the high energy plasma throwers, the shots move extremely fast (so you practically can't miss), and they're even a little bit more efficient for shield damage (especially if you take into account all the missed shots you get on other weapons). Just put as many on as you feel comfortable with - put a bunch if you want short high damage runs where you have to stop for energy, or just a few if you prefer sustained firing and want more room for the other weapons. I usually just put a pair of these and fill the rest with EBCs.

The EBCs are Teladi tech, you should be able to pick some up near Omicron Lyrae (I seem to recall there being some Teladi sectors just west of there with EBC forges and ammo factories). They take ammo, but only weigh 1 each so you should have plenty of cargo room for ammo. You might have to park a freighter on an ammo factory early on to get enough ammo until you can set up your own ammo factory though. These outrange all the other light weapons and the energy use is practically nil. They aren't too bad on the ammo, but you probably want to set up a toggle so you can turn them off and on and only use them on larger ships (PRGs are fine for tearing up most other small craft). These can give you the firepower needed to destroy capital ships in an M3.

You'll need close to 4 mil to get the ship and all the guns (as well as some rep with the Argon and Teladi), but it's totally worth it.

The prices! They burn!
I did manage to get a Xenon L in the meantime, as well as capturing a few miscellaneous ships and brought my account to about 2.5 mil. Yes, the energy regen is silly small, but I also managed to get a few guns off of a Xenon ship. Compared to the saber, that's more firepower, especially since I wasn't about to hit Terran space for a weapon that seemed to have a hard time hitting. Other than that, a fully upgraded Xenon L has respectable speed, as well as maneuverability. I just go ahead and orbit whatever ship I'm fighting, and they have trouble firing back.

Well, the Ls can use those PRGs too so if you can find some.

If I remember correctly the Xenon might use PRGs, so you might be able to liberate some. Although that might have been PBE's, which are good but much shorter ranged... been a while since I played. I just remember them occasionally blasting me with a fast firing gun that I couldn't dodge, can't recall if it was a PBE or a PRG :)

Oh, sorry. Reading fail. I somehow read "In an M3+" as "Its an M3+"

And yea, I was thinking it was probably PBEs. Those are nasty. I remember having a couple of those little Xenon Ms (the M4s, normally just a nuisance) equipped with them just stripping my shields bare before I could take them out and having to stop and make repairs because of it.

As for a fast ship for jumping, grab a Kestrel from the teladi. Thats a fun ship, its super fast and still has room for a jump drive and a decent number of e-cells. Or, if you can manage to capture one (It took me forever to finally get one to bail) get a pirate Kestrel. They're even faster. I do most of my exploration in a Kestrel.

I second the Kestrel suggestion. They are very fun, I use 'em for satellite deployment and exploring.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Kestrels are awesome. I once actually went pirating in a Kestrel with IRE's after a friend told me that M5s were useless for anything but exploring. It took forever to take out the shields but I managed to get a freighter to bail haha. I also took out some pirate harriers in a crazy, high speed fight.

The funny thing is you can put a PRG in the turret, so you can set it to attack and just fly around enemies having it shoot them.

Damn i have horrible luck in this game  :'(

Flying around some Split sector, i see a Hermes (hauler) that's marked hostile, i think to myself "Sweet". I fly after him shoot him up and he ejects I'm parading around happy with a 200k credit bonus. i fly my ship beside it, eject, claim, and begin to repair it. The next thing i hear is "Warning-Missile incoming!" i think "SHIT" look over and watch my idiotic M4 Autopilot slam into the hauler destroying them both, then turn around to see 3-4 missiles flying at me with a few Pirate Novas and Discoverers flying a short distance behind, even if i managed to evade the missiles they would kill me, so i got to watch a pretty light show.

Later after i reload i begin to fly back to that sector eager to cap the trader again, only this time when i got to the gate some ships came through and i crashed... "crap"... It was pretty though 5-6 traders and M5's slamming into each other making fireworks.

Getting back into this after finally getting it re-downloaded. (fucking steam should die)

Started out as Pious Paranid, running around doing exploratory trade runs right now.

Around Family Rhy (I think) I came across a Boron Taskforce (Shark + Thresher + Fighter Escort) picking fights, followed them a bit and collected a few missiles, just as it was getting rather boring and I was planning to leave I saw a Split Raptor jump in,  after a bit of non-violent skirmish the Thresher and Raptor got in a fight, resulting in the frigate going boom.

This prompted the Shark to attack the Raptor...

Spoiler: boom (click to show/hide)

THEN! The Boron fighters promptly went on the offensive and destroyed the Raptor.

Haha, fun times.

I have the RRF mod and a mod that has NPC ships bail to other NPCs, so salvaging ships after a big battle can be a lucrative business.

Question, does TC has the mod from Reunion that allowed you to build space stations, satellites, carriers, etc and pretty much be a super sandboxmode?

Does the mod have any special functions, like unlimited cash/resources? If not Native TC is as sandbox as it can get, with only very few items unavailable for the player to mess about with.
