Civvies have made their own designs for a long while now. The usual "Have you made your own seed colony yet?" applies. Other than that, it can take time for them to get ships designed and built. How long has it been since you founded your first colony?

So I'm having this weird issue.

I've been trying to design a freighter and whenever I add a small cargo hold, the summary display goes blank. The same happens with other ships as well, right around the 950-1000 ton mark.

Spoiler: images (click to show/hide)

I think I'm missing something really obvious here, and I couldn't find anything that'd help me in the tutorials on the wiki. Can anyone help?

No idea on what's causing it, but you are missing other info that should be in there you even get that far as well.  Fuel cap and flight time and military or civ designation being the biggest.

Also nice fighter engines and active sensors for your freighter.  That thing is going to eat fuel like crazy getting anywhere.  If you're playing with maintenance off then it's ok to make your cargo ships military, I guess.

Think someone was having the same issue some time ago.  Check the aurora forums, would be faster to search there.

Have you subsidized your starting civ shipping line at all, or just left it at 1500 wealth? I usually pump 10-12k wealth into it over the course of a couple years when I want them to get off their asses and build.

Only a little bit, more than enough to build a freighter, but I guess I'll try just pumping more money in.

Looks like a text display issue, us your decimal seperator set to comma?

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I've set it to a dot and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

I shot down the enemy missiles without problems, my meson escorts made short work of the 33 AMMs in each salvo (I have 8 eskorts with 4 quadturrets eacht). But from one salvo to the next they all seem to have decided that it is every ship for itself and refuse to shoot unless they are targeted. I did not chance anything in the combat assignements.

Any ideas?

Edit: Ok, I solved it. Put everything on "self only" for 5 seconds, then returned to point defense and it seems to be working again.

What is a good way to manage resource collection from asteroid miners? I'm guessing there isn't a "transport all resources from asteroids to planet X" button. Ugh, and it seems I'll have to make dozens of "colonies"

Mass drivers to move the minerals to a central point in a system for pick up.

Though honestly I only mine asteroids if I have to outside a system I'm making a permanent colony.

Drop a mass driver on each asteroid, have it send the minerals to your planet. Alternatively, set a freighter to collect it on repeat.

Typically with asteroid mining I just keep one freighter with my miners since the amounts are so small. I mine the asteroid, load the minerals, delete the colony and then move onto the next one. I build big freighters so I only occasionally have to detach it to drop off the minerals onto my main planet and then have it rejoin the miners.

I usually build my miners with cargo holds. Not to carry minerals, mind, but to haul around mass drivers. Only the big extra-territorial ones, mind, that I have operating out beyond systems I've colonized. When they jump in-system I drop one mass driver on the closest asteroid (or short-travel-distance comet) to my entry JP. The second one gets plopped down on whatever I'm harvesting and picked up after it's dry. That way, once the system has been picked over, everything is on that central body. Then the central mass driver gets picked up and the mining ship continues to the next system.

Mind, I don't use them heavily or often, since it's usually just easier to drop down some automines and a mass driver on every planet, moon, and asteroid with half-decent deposits and check back a couple decades later.
