So I found an alien civ and all they've been doing is stalking my ships in the system. They come up as neutral but I have no idea on how to get my diplomatic team on working on relations. Suggestions?

Create a diplomatic team, assign it to that race in the racial screen, click on "engage communication" or something.

Then, once they accept you as allies, sneak on their system, crush their fleet and enslave them.

Also note that keeping ships in systems they identify as theirs will slowly degrade relations if they're neutral.

Man, I love this game, but my desktop is currently out of commission (No internet at my current place of residence), is there any way to make the game run on a linux or is it windows only?

Only with military ships, I believe. Commercial vessels are fine.
Quite possibly true. I rarely have commercial vessels out beyond the range of my guns, so I wouldn't know.

How do you go about making missile engines? I can't seem to make any engines that the missile design page will accept. another mistake that could've been easily solved by actually looking

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Of course; I love techwanking with Aurora ships as much as anyone. :))

This came from my current campaign, an advanced-tech (avg. ~TL6-7 start with T8 drives, because seriously fuck the new drive mechanics, I've got solid-core AM with 0.25 fuel efficiency and I can still barely take my ships 200b km from Sol with 1m+ litres, I want tactical and strategic-level combat with some logistics, not Galactic Logistics Sim 20XX), low-pop (500,000), 500%-difficulty NPR spawned-at-start start, roughly 55 years in.

My current OOB for my carrier groups is pretty limited, because I only have two military shipyards, among other things.

ECM 50
Basic ops procedure is to send in the CSC to locate the mobile enemies within the system, and then hop a carrier group in and hope that I can kill them all before I run out of missiles. The ideal is that the Merlins can cripple or kill everything, with the Partisans to mop up; the Nova and Guardian shouldn't ever see combat. Of course I've got a few Swarm-held systems that have been busy cranking out Soldiers for 40+ years, so I'm going to have to get something more substantial eventually. Not to mention that I haven't encountered that 500% difficulty NPR that's had the better half of a century to build up, now that they actually tech up. :s

Funny enough. I never bother with CIWS, I probably should sometime, for RP reasons if anything. I'm not sure sure why you created the Nova class if you don't plan on using it though. A small military shipyard that need using?
