two people names steve can also make grand space 4x games each. must be the name

Texashawk - http://imperiagame.wordpress.com/

They even both have weird minimum resolution requirements, too.

HA!!

To be fair, I could probably be convinced to put in a 1600 X 900 resolution, but as I've said elsewhere, redoing 2D UIs is a lot of work.

Also, I can only hope to be as talented as Steve W.

You might be better served working to make the UI scale to any resolution.

True, but its a lot of work. You have to have the origin of all of your screen elements scale relative to your viewport (which I already have done) but you also have to have either different size assets for each resolution or scale your assets on the fly by using a ratio based off your 'base' resolution. Either could work, but right now my focus is on the programming side. It seems like a lot of people want lower resolutions, though, so I think I will spend some time on that soon.

A CHALLENGER APPEARS.
Really, Imperia looks great and I'm super excited to try it. Maybe make a seperate thread for it if there isn't one already? Seeing as Aurora just hit the THOUSAND page mark, I'm pretty sure we can all tell there is an appetite for super complex 4x games.

A newb approaches to join in the celebration of 1k!
I have yet to get in a scrap with an alien.
But when I do, they'll be impressed by my sheer power of lasers.
My rather outdated PDC has twenty Quad 40cm Far X-ray laser turrets, and ten 15cm versions. All with a good range, tracking speed, armour, and fire rate.
But their electronic defence is crap.
Next, Quad 60cm Near-Gamma laser turrets!
Or huge, slow missiles with ridiculous range that shoot out a tonne of really fast missiles once they get into typical PD range.

I can tell you that I probably won't play this much unless it can either play in a window at 1776x1000, or a fullscreen borderless window at 1920x1080. :)

You also have minecraft Steve?.

Maybe Steves and games just have some kind of affinity.
You know, Minecraft is sort of a 4x. You explore, exploit, kinda expand, and kinda exterminate.

Eh, not really. Everything can be done from one base with a large mine network under it.

Unless you use mods, in which case you have one base with a portal to another dimension with an automine.

Lasers firing from inside earths atmosphere get dissipated, its a loss of 10% per .1 atm i think.  They are probably worthless unless you are in a custom genned system with very little atmosphere around your homeworld.

Of course this is now somewhat different now that we can have colonies on asteroids and airless moons, though of course you still need mesons for planets with appreciable atmospheres.

I'll just remove all the nitrogen then.
Man, if I knew that sooner, I could have used the moon as a firing base.
Welp, maybe once I start making missiles I can use another planet to defend Earth.

Careful with that, if you end up unbalancing the atmosphere enough that O2 is > than 30% of the total atmospheric pressure, the colony cost will move away from 0.00 and people will start dying.

With the human minimums he could have an atmosphere with .1 O2 and .23 N2/CO2, which would permit energy weapons (in both directions, mind).

I find the thought of unterraforming Terra more amusing than I probably should.

Dammit, the faliure of the wiki to point that out cost the lives of a billion Dwarves.
So it has to be under 0.3 atmospheres AND 30% of the total?

If I recall correctly, yes, that's the limit for normal humans. If you genetically modify humans, you'll be able to get the former, max atm requirement higher, but I'm pretty sure the 30% of the total can't be modified (as the reason that's there is, if I recall correctly, to simulate that too much oxygen creates a hazardous[very fast combustion] environment or something like that).
