Yeah, the only option is to over-engineer them. It's actually marginally possible now, but IMO it's too wasteful.

I feared that.
What would be a good compromise between economic, maintenance and user input(I do want to leave them there and forget them)?

And as a side note, is a 500k ton or more, maybe even go for 1000k, asteroid miner fleet overkill? I have been building 100k ton miners but I'm running out of captains with mining bonuses.

As long as you've got a big enough shipyard, bigger is better.

Then I'll just keep on expanding my yard =P
I'm kinda thinking in WH40K terms, making earth into a forgeworld, So yeah. Bigger is just what I want.

Luna and Mars are getting tons of unrest because I don't have any military ships, and I'm looking to make some missile ships. Any advice for this?

They only look at weapons size to decide what protection level they have.

If you don't mind a gamey solution you can build PDCs with just weapons as that will still provide PPV points while otherwise being useless.

I tend to do that, but I think it's perfectly acceptable and realistic. Why would the populace get uppity when they know the empire is building them a station specifically to protect them/keep the peace? Of course troops are much easier and quicker, but less awesome.

1. That's all you should ever need, as the AI doesn't armor missiles.

Of course there's also a certain type of missile-esque weapon which is decidedly resistant to AMMs...

So decimal values, say, 0.5 or 0.1, won't work?

I don't think so. You're free to experiment, of course. But again, even with very low WH tech, a WH-1 isn't a very large MSP allocation.

Minimum WH strength has to be 1.  So if you have a WH strength tech of 2 then your AMMs need .5 WH space, WH tech of 5 you only need .2 space and so on.
