Yeah, Aurora can be buggy as hell, but this looks like us missing something really obvious instead of a typical Aurora bug :ß

Could you post a screen grab of the ship design screen?

Also did you build it at a yard or spawn it in with fast oob?  Fast oob allows you to spawn in ships that have errors that you wouldn't be able to build at a yard.

He already posted the ship design and it looks good. I bet the survey task group is assigned as the group for the shipyard. Check the event log for errors. There has to be some kind of message if you advance a day and the ship isn't at mars.

Is there some way to use SM mode to see the details of an NPR ship design?
No, you have to use designer mode to view NPR details. PM me if you want the password.

I said ship design screen, not ship details.  The details don't list the errors or the exact components that the entire design screen has.

This is a good candidate for the root of the problem.

Aurora on small monitors:
1. Game Parameters -> Reduced Height Windows.
2. Lock taskbar to the right side of your desktop.
3. Run Resize Enable

I guess he made up his mind on the matter.

It would be very nice to see a more polished game with an un-obfuscated UI, I think.
The same can be said about Dwarf Fortress!

It's unlikely to happen, sad to say, for a number of reasons. Until Steve actually gets a version of Aurora 2 out, I suppose.

There's a fanmade project, Pulsar 4x, which is trying to borrow a lot from Aurora while making it something open source that can be improved the way you suggest. You can find alphas and more data about it over at the Aurora forums.

Last I heard it's still completely unplayable, as opposed to functional with a few quirks.

I had to sleep, I'll try again soon.
And yes, the ships were made with fast OOB

I queued up some ships to be made at the shipyard and that didn't give me any errors, if it's any help. I'm on my tablet right now, though.

welp

I'll just move them into a new task group until I figure this out.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Yep, that's what it was. Just use the default Shipyard TG as your build receptacle and transfer newly completed ships into new TGs when you send them out; you can always merge them with other TGs if you're doing things like reinforcing a fleet.

I see, thanks.

Either way, now I've reached the end of this tutorial and it probably won't spontanously update, so does anyone have any advice on what to do next?

Set up a few mining colonies (just a few automines and a mass driver) for resources you're running low on while researching the jump drive techs a bit, then head out and explore the rest of the galaxy.

Also, start working on terraforming tech and (eventually) building terraforming ships at some point. Civilian shipping can mostly take care of infrastructure for low-col-cost worlds, but in the long run it's easier to terraform everything worthwhile to 0.00.

Some people like to fully develop their home system, but I like to get out exploring the rest of the galaxy asap.  Once you find a jump point, send a jump ship through and start exploring the same way you surveyed your home system.  Be aware that your ships will begin having fuel problems, so be ready to rescue stranded scouts.
