   Just to note as it wasn't specifically pointed out by EuchreJack. When you press 30 days then unless an NPR is using a shorter time step or something interupty happens those 30 days will pass. Because the condition doesn't interrupt the ship never gets a chance to change its orders and will run itself into the ground. You might be able to get by depending on the distance by maybe doing 5 day turns as it will get a chance to do its thing though as EuchreJack pointed out you should probably just add more fuel tanks.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Also, I'd suggest just using SpaceMaster mode to edit your current design, as I'm guessing that you have several ships in operation.

Spacemaster->Spacemaster on
Unless you set a password, just press enter at the password popup

Go to ship designer, select your designs, then select "unlock" (only an option in spacemaster)
Add your fuel tanks to your existing designs, press "lock", and TADA, your ships have more fuel capacity.

Do note that the ships will still have the same quantity of fuel, and thus a lower percentage of fuel, than before you added the fuel tanks.  Whether you send them back home to refuel or just spacemaster in the fuel is up to you.

Does a Soirum Harvester unit need a fuel tank itself or can I just have a tanker in the same taskgroup as it?

I think you actually need a cargo bay, and a few refineries planet-side.

   Thats if I was mining from a planet. What I am asking is if the harvester unit that you park on a gas giant needs to have a tank itself or can I just have a ship with a tank in the same task group to accept the processed fuel.

I believe it's enough to have a ship in the same task group with enough empty fuel storage, but I'm not certain.  It works like that with salvage modules; they can work if there is a ship in the same task group with enough cargo space.

Ok then, I'll go with larger fuel tanks then. Thanks!

As far as I know fuel harvesters dump their harvest into their own tanks and not others.  I've noted this by watching as I add more harvesters to an existing fleet and there is no note of anything like automatic equalization.  You'll need to watch them as they fill, either just let your ships fuel from them, waste fuel transferring it around, or dump to the planet they are fueling from and turn it into a fuel dump.

Fuel tanks are tiny anyway when talking about a fuel harvester.  Would take 20 years at a .7 source to fill my average design, that's why my average harvesting program has at least 10 ships per source.

Personally, I don't use the 30% threshold, as it means you're probably too far away to refuel when it triggers.  Try increasing to 40% threshold, so that you're closer to half a tank of gas away when it triggers.

I have been losing survey ships at the 50% threshold, personally.

   I either go for super efficient or fighters. I actually had an interesting setup with the smallest gravifighters I could in swarms of 30 so I could just ship them to a system and have them survey all the points at once.

I've actually found this game a few days ago by chance (looking for space 4x games), and I have to say--I am having the hardest time getting into it ;n;
The premise and level of control is wonderful, but something seems to be in the way of enjoying it as would be expected.

Yes, fuel harvesters need fuel tanks; their process directly converts Sorium as it is mined, because there's no place for it to be placed on gas giants.

Unrelated note: With my survey ships, I tend to give them ~2-4 years worth of fuel once I've got them down below 1k tons; once I've pushed out to four or five jumps from Sol I refuel all my survey ships, then send them out as far as they can go, let them run out of fuel, and recover them whenever I eventually get a fleet group or colony out that far. Sucks for my crews, I imagine. :V

Don't that have crew morale issues nowadays? I remember geosurvey ships being rather annoying about that.

Don't you just give them more intended deployment time?

My latest grav survey design for instance:
Code: [Select]
Garm class Survey Craft    8 000 tons     152 Crew     1134 BP      TCS 160  TH 153.6  EM 0
4000 km/s    JR 3-50     Armour 1-35     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/6/0     Damage Control Rating 8     PPV 0
Maint Life 6.83 Years     MSP 1753    AFR 60%    IFR 0.8%    1YR 65    5YR 980    Max Repair 160 MSP
Intended Deployment Time: 48 months    Spare Berths 0

J8000(3-50) Military Jump Drive     Max Ship Size 8000 tons    Distance 50k km     Squadron Size 3
320 EP Surveyor Engine (2)    Power 320    Fuel Use 5.3%    Signature 76.8    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 1 000 000 Litres    Range 424.5 billion km   (1228 days at full power)

Improved Gravitational Sensors (3)   6 Survey Points Per Hour

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

   Survey is affected but you can change the intended deployment. Also you could just let the survey rate slow down. I don't know what the floor of it is so if you have enough sensors you may be able to just ignore it.
