Diplomatic teams can gain skill increases even if they aren't assigned to an NPR.

When the game starts, you can create a team and just leave it on standby until you meet an NPR.  It'll help improve relations more quickly.  Just remember to replace members that retire or die.
Hm, didn't know that, thanks for the tip!

In the past, I've always had to make sure my diplo-skilled people didn't retire by making up jobs for them (such as manning my fifth home system taskgroup command staff).

It turns out that my trade ships did indeed find their way to the alien homeworld, and the alien trade ships found my homeworld, despite neither side having seen either planet before.  And the little green men brought a _lot_  - 23 trade ships! It was a little humiliating when my single civilian freighter pulled up in their driveway...

True, but every (U.S) project to develop a reactor capable of powering one has been shut down. LET'S SEE HOW MUCH PROTECTION WE GET FROM SOCIAL SECURITY WHEN THE INVADERS COME.

I reinstalled Aurora and started a new game, so far Ive got a massive supply at reasonable access of duranium, neutronium sorium and corundium.
But I'm still a scrub so I get so many questions and theres not really an active community on the forums or IRC to figure it out.

So I've gotten a decent run going and it made me think...is is possible to turn on one of the disasters then using terraforming and generic research not have to move at all?

Just got a HUGE 1920x1080 monitor so I thought I'd try getting Aurora to work again.  Who knows?  Maybe it will.
Also, I found 2 really awesome Aurora AARs on the Paradox Interactive forums which also have some helpful tips on Aurora.  Or they would, if they weren't old.
Ad Astra!
Aurora III
And no, that isn't a typo.  I can't find his second AAR anywhere.

The second one was done by someone else and didn't last very long, IIRC.

Probably not, for the same reason Dwarf Fortress wont.

It uses windows api for some of the interfaces, so I doubt it...here is an interesting idea...play a game without using any missiles or fighters at all...but that might be either crazy or easy to do.

like what?

Can NPRs generate during play?
Whats the difference between the world design setting 1 NPR to exist and the spawn rate percentage.
How do I assign fire controls to individual weapons.
How many weapons can a fire control system direct.
What are some recommendations on sensor design for x scenario.

1. Yes
2. 1 NPR will exist at the start, the spawn percentage is how likely you will find a NPR when discovering a solar system with a habitable planet.  If the rate is at 30%, if you discover a habitable planet there is a 30% chance you will find someone there.
3. Dunno
4. Dunno
5. Thermal sensors are good for general scanning of enemy ships and things, EM scanners are for populated planets, Geological sensors will allow the ship to survey a planet for minerals, and Gravitational sensors allow a ship to look for and discover warp points.

EM scanners are also good for finding ships that have an active shield.
