I have Windows 8 on my desktop and Aurora works just fine. I can't speak for mobile devices though.

Does anyone know if Aurora will install properly in Windows 8?
Runs fine for me on my Win8 lappy with the shell. Good luck running Aurora on a mobile, though.

We shall fight in the asteroid belt, we shall fight in the depths of space, we shall fight in the orbitals, we shall fight on the surface; we shall never surrender.

Holy crap, what did you do, insult their mothers?

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I've been skirmishing with them for ages, it looks like maybe they decided to finish the job.

Dude, you are worm holed.

So I'm running an AAR based on a conventional start in 1969, there's really been no action to report on yet, just lots of waffling about the space race. I may have made some of my starting sensors a little too long ranged for the tech level, but I'm going to see what happens if I crawl along very slowly, perhaps taking until the 90s to get past nuclea thermal( and I'm going to need everything to be horridly slow compared to what they should come up against, we'll see what happens if an alien fleet decides to come up against 700 horridly obsolete minuteman missiles, and sticks around long enough to get hit by their ponderous 100-1000 km/s 3-6 MIRVs.

Also because I'm bored already I'm going to post my July 1969 update using Kerbal Space Program to illustrate the soviets last ditch attempt to beat Apollo 11 to the moon, and it's glorious alien relics( or not)

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Without wormholes, it's unlikely that anyone will visit you.  I generally prioritize exploration/opening up new systems just so I can find something to fight.

That includes prioritizing any tech that lets me move faster, explore more systems.  I figure, I can always make a competent navy after finding the enemy, right?  ;)

I've had some fun with a no-extra, 100% NPR generation, jumpgates on all game.  If you set starting NPRs to zero, it should run better than usual while still providing enemies to fight.

Just as an aside, including Invaders alongside either/both of the other special enemies still kills games with eternal forced 1-day turns sooner or later. It's specifically them; NPRs, Precursors, and Swarm can all cause delays, sometime for a year or more, but nothing on the order of what Invaders do. :|

I'm looking forward to the next version. I'm going to start a new game asap after it comes out. It seems like this is eternally the case because Steve manages to make some cool sounding changes to make a great game even better.

I know the feeling.  The only reason I haven't started a new game in the last month is because I'm eagerly awaiting the Multiple NPR start.  It's enough to make me go Trans-Newtonian instead of Conventional.  ^_^

For someone like myself who hasn't kept up with Aurora in awhile, where can we find out whats up and coming for it? I find information on Aurora a bit scattered about.

Can you design a race and an empire, and then make it a NPR? If so, how?

While in SpaceMaster mode, go into the System Display (F9).  Select the world you want to create the NPR on and click "Create Empire."  With the dialog box that appears, there's a checkbox that says "Create as NPR - N/A for Conventional Empires."  Using this, you can set the empire to be generated as Trans-Newtonian NPR under full AI control.  If you create a new race rather than one already generated by the game, it will pull its optimum gravity, temperature, and pressure from the vitae of the planet you selected.

Can you design a race and an empire, and then make it a NPR? If so, how?

Make sure SM mode is on.
Open up the system information screen(F9).
Find and select the planet you want to be the Homeworld of the new NPR empire.
On the lower right hit the 'HW Minerals' button. As the AI tends to run into problems establishing sufficient mineral transport as time progresses you may want to use the 'specify minerals' button to bump the mineral levels up, if you want a decent opponent.
On the lower right hit the 'Create Empire' button.
You can pick an existing race to form the empire, or have it create a new one with it's tolerances based on the planet selected.
It will automatically suggest 'fair' values for starting population and facilities based on how long the campaign has been running and your initial starting population.
I'd check the assign tech points and the create ship systems and designs checkboxes though I'm not entirely sure if that is necessary.
Make sure to check the create as NPR checkbox.
Hit 'Create Empire' button.

Ninja'd but I'll post anyway as there are a few extra parts here.
