I tend to reuse the same set of names for classes for most ships except combat ships, they tend to get a class name bassed on their particular design.

Surveyor class  - geosurvey ships
Discovery class - gravsurvey ships
Gaia class - terraformers
Hauler class - freighters
Sleeper class - colony ships
Oasis class - fuel harvesters
Drinker class - tankers
Dwarf class - asteroid miners
Sentinel class - orbital weapon platforms
Longshot class - missile pods
Turtle class - planetary fighter base

I've taken to naming civilian ships after whatever I happened to be interested it at the time, but my fuel harvesters are always River, my tankers are always Jerrycan, and my AM's are Perry.

My combat ships, however, differ depending on their use. Carriers are usually something like Tipper, Semitrailer, 18-Wheeler, Ute, Flatbed, etc. My fighters are named after spiders, and my missile launchers are named based on what missile they're firing, which in turn are named after small insects with similar characteristics to their intended use. For example, my Redback class fighter uses Wasp MK-I ASM fired from the Waspnest box launcher. My default AMM is called Bugspray, and is fired from a Spraycan launcher.

Heh....my anti-Swarm missile series is the Bugkiller.

With all the new engine changes, my engine designs typically follow this format:

<1><2>-<3><4>, where

1=C for commerical, M for Military, F for fighter (3HS or smaller), Q for missile
2=code designating the engine technology (NP=Nuclear Pulse, I=Ion, MP=Magnetoplasma, IF=Internal Fusion, etc.)
3=Power Rating
4=optional suffixes like E for high-efficiency, X for overthrusted, S for stealthed

So a CI-300E would be a commercial ion engine with a 300 power rating and an extra high-efficiency rating, while a FIF-40SX would be a fighter fusion engine with a 40 power rating and poor fuel efficiency, and thermal reduction.

That actually doesn't help me, here's why.

When I run the HW minerals, I keep getting values between 10 and 250 or so. When I go to "specify minerals" I see that those values are actually representing thousands of minerals from the generation code, but the game is only seeing "70".

Specifically if I force enter 700, I get 700 minerals. But If I put in 7000, I get 7 minerals. This clearly looks like a decimal point issue, but I'm using the "." as requested by the game so I don't know how to fix it.

Edit: Well I decided to insert "," for "digit" seperator and that seems to have fixed the issue. I coulda sworn I saw you had to use "."

Thanks guys!

That's precisely why.

In "13,766.05" the ',' is the digit separator and the '.' is the decimal separator, at least by the American system (which the game uses).

Apologies again for the nooby questions, but here's another!

For terraforming, the wiki seems very split as to whether you need oxygen %, or atmospheres of oxygen. It flip flops on using the two terms.

Which is it?

Both :D

Minimum temperature is in atmosphere
Maximum temperature is in percentage

I mean for breathability. The wiki keeps flip flopping if you need .2 atm or 20% oxygen (ideally speaking).

Or do you mean that I need .2 atm and 20% oxygen? That seems kinda limiting on what you can actually terraform.

Dutchling, I don't know if I don't understand, or if you put it in such a way...

% of oxygen = pressure, ie. on a planet with 1 atmospheric pressure where oxygen is 20%, it's pressure is 0.2, 25% = 0.25 and so on. Of course, when atm pressure is bigger than that, say 2, 15% oxygen has got 0.3 pressure.

If a planet has more than 30% oxygen in it's atmosphere, it's colony cost is minimum 2.

fakeedit:

I think whenever oxygen is between 0.1 and 0.3 atm pressure, there are no toxic gases, and oxygen precentage is less than 30%, the air is breathable.

Yes. To be human breathable, an atmosphere needs have at least .1 atm of oxygen while being no more than 30% oxygen.

Ahhhh, I get what he was saying. Temperature was the wrong word, perhaps tolerance was what he was looking for?

But yes what he's saying matches up with other explanations then :)

Edit: In other news, time to figure out how to fix luna now XD Thanks again all.

Good evening, Gentlemen. I've called this general staff meeting today to meet an important issue.
Earth is currently severely overpopulated and while our resource needs are currently being met bythe automated mining colonies
established throughout the system this situation cannot last. Soon there will be rioting in the streets.
We don't dare leaving Sol in search of new habitable planets until we actually have
weapons capable of galactic domination defending ourselves.

So In short I'd like to propose that all biologists are executed to feed the populace.
We need missile specialists, not petri-dish pushers.
Hereafter, creativity and missile engineering will become mandatory subjects from preschool.
On second thought, execute all biologists but one.
If the last one can engineer some kind of horrific bio-weapon that we can disperse via a missile he gets to live.

Seriously, the last scientist I got? 0% bonus 20 labs, Biology and genetics.
Give me a damn missile specialist already.

I would suggest instead having a competition between the biologists as to who can make the deadliest bio-weapon; rather than killing all but one and then hoping that one can succeed.

Let them design their weapons. Then they can test it on one other Biologist of their choice. If it is deadly, he can try to figure out how to use it in a missile. If not...

Don't kill the biologists! They're actually useful now that terraforming tech is in their sphere rather than C&P.

I have a missile specialist with 65% bonus and 5 labs. I also have a missile specialist with 0% bonus and 50 labs.

I don't know who I should have fighting rabid animals and who should win a nobel extermination prize.

Eh, I like to bioengineer people.  It really opens up the colony options.

EDIT: Specifically, gravity and minimum temperature species modifications can open up worlds that no amount of terraforming can.  And it's all covered by those bio guys.
