And Paul's math doesn't apply anymore because engines have changed.
Yep. Which is really a shame, my OCD tendencies made me feel all fuzzy when I could refine the MSP division out to the ten thousandths place without spending a long time doing it by hand.  :-X

Unfortunately that doesn't stop the game from being 2X the size of my screen.

When I place a laser on a fighter, it changes to a military vessel and gives a design flaw with my fire control. Any help?

EDIT:

Flying Dice's signature should help.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Fighters should be military vessels? What's the fire control error, the fact that you don't have one? I think, with the removal of fighter engines, fighters are just any ship under 500 tons.

That helps, thanks.

EDIT: Can carriers repair the fighters docked with them?

Indeed and you no longer need to have an engine on it for it to be classified as a fighter. This makes your fighter factories able to turn out defence sattelites with a single turret or a stack of box launchers by the hundreds.

Yep, that's for any ship in a hangar, not just fighters. They don't accrue maintenance and they can draw supplies from their host for repairs. I think you can even repair armor damage in a hangar.

Are you trying to play it on an iPad or one of those tiny little mini-netbooks? I can run it fine on 1024x768.

Yep, you can use this coupled with the fact that PDC's are immune to maintainance to build giant hangars that you can store your ships in without needing to conduct maintainance on them, and to repair them without tying up a shipyard slip.

Can I get a rundown of the whole frigate/cruiser/destroyer/corvette/dreadnought/etc role/size thing please? I can't find it anywhere.

It's entirely up to you. No 'official' set of displacement-class relationships. Here's what I normally use as my rule of thumb, mixing tonnage and role:

Fighter: <500t
FAC: <1000t
Corvette: 1000-5000t (Light attack/system defence)
Frigate: 5000-10000t (Multipurpose)
Destroyer: 10000-20000t (Mainline offense)
Light Cruiser: 15000-25000t (Support; sensor platform, LRM platform, etc.)
Heavy Cruiser: 20000-30000t (Mainline offense)
Monitor: 25000-35000t (System defence, v. heavy shields and armor)
Battlecruiser: 25000-40000t (Fast offense)
Battleship: 40000-60000t (Formation center/heavy offense)
Dreadnought: 60000+t (Ditto)
Superdreadnought: 100k+t (See above)

Escort Carrier: 10000-15000t (Light, weak, low fighter count)
Light Carrier: 15000-35000t (Cloak, reduced thermals, very weak, medium fighter count)
Carrier: 25000-40000t (Mainline carrier, heavy fighter count and decent strength)
Assault Carrier: 30000-60000t (Heavy armament, medium fighter count; a warship with a fighter contingent)

FAC Carrier: Variable tonnage
