You can still kinetic strike another empires colony but the process is a little complex.

  • Create a colony on the target body.
  • Ship in a mass driver.
  • Have another colony, preferably the one furthest away, start sending happy fun time packages.
  • Before the first package arrives, load the mass driver onto a freighter.
  • Abandon the temporary colony.

Or just be normal about it and plaster them with nukes.

Dust settle way quicker than radiations.

And here I thought we were talking about ease of making things explode, not efficiency. In that case, just precision-strike their troops and spam a couple divisions of Heavy Assault.

Or just wall off their jump points with massive defense installations and proceed to other systems because its more efficient to find areas which are not already inhabited.

Slaves. Slaves are free income. That, and it takes less time and fewer resources to invade a planet than it does to put up blobs of OWPs at every JP in their home system and along the routes between the ones you use, and to keep ships or more OWPs on station over their world to blow up new construction.

Galactic dominion is more cost-effective than being peaceful and reasonable.

An Aurora player empire could roll over the entire ST-verse Milky Way in two years of war. :|

Considering a mere 68 megaton detonation nearly destroyed the enterprise at one point I'm inclined to agree.

"Mere" 68 megatons? The most powerful nuclear device we ever detonated was 50 megatons, and the fireball from that explosion covered a four-kilometer radius. Unless the Enterprise was a good distance away from the explosion, the fact that it survived seems pretty damn impressive to me.

Explosion in space are way less powerfull. No shockwave, for example.

I've ripple-fired 48 12-megaton missiles into an enemy ship and seen it sail out the other side unharmed (Invaders), so Enterprise being in danger from a 68-megaton device is less impressive to Aurora. :)

I didn't even mention the shockwave (though for the record, the shockwave from the 50 megaton bomb leveled a town over 55 kilometers away). The fireball itself was four kilometers in radius.
