Steve said the designs will use the NPR design code, which I could have sworn he said he was updating but either I imagined it or it was a long time ago. Or I suck at searching. I guess that means the player has even more of a reason to create government owned superfreighters now.

Evidently scrapping works such that all civilian ships are scrapped at 15 years year old, and when a line builds a new ship it will mark any ships older than 10 years not currently carrying anything to be scrapped, effectively replacing the older one. That seems like it could still keep a frightfully large number of ships in service, just from my experience, so I share Paul's concerns.

On a somewhat-related note, the current Cargo Holds are now Cargo Hold - Small, and there's a new Cargo Hold - Standard that is 5x the size, so you no longer need to build your holds in multiples of 5 to actually be able to carry an even number of typical installations.

It's a theme, so it's just things like ship names and commander titles.  Cosmetics of the lowest sort.  But you may get attacked by, I dunno, orcs... or, other WH40K things...  I don't know the series.

Looking at it, there is a 40K Imperium faction theme, as well as two commander name themes, one for the Imperium and one for Chaos.

Ugh,  Chaos naming for commanders? Ouch. "Ravenok the destroyer: hello terrorizey the defiler, Terrorizey the defiler: welcome Ravenok the destroyer!"

I wish I could play this, but I need a bigger monitor ;.;

I tried using 360 desktop but since it won't let me resize any of the game's windows, it doesn't help.

Man, I'm so jonesing for updated Aurora. I started a new game over the weekend just to derp around with some new design ideas like survey cruisers that pop into system, fire off a ton of missile-ferried sensor buoys to scan all the planets, and then dispatch a trio of fast hyper-engined gravscouts to survey the Lagrange points. Great idea in theory, *horrible* implementation until you get your tech up to a reasonable level. The sensor buoy/missile delivery system is like a size 60 missile, and the overall ship is around 20,000 tons. For that much heft, I could build a couple of classic scouts and just send them in with a battlecruiser escort.  ::)

Meanwhile I'm suffering writer's block on getting the AAR fiction done on my main campaign. *sigh*

My mission is to have at least one post on every page of this thread after the point where I added that.  :P

I feel you on that, RedKing. Getting antsy because of all the awesome, to the point that I went back to GalCivII to fill time.

Funnily enough, GalCiv II had been gathering dust on my shelf since about three hours after I first played it, and I recently started playing it again too (wanted to use the ship builder to maybe try to put flesh on some of my Aurora ships). Something miraculous happened along the way....I actually kinda like the game now. Once I stopped trying to play it the way that I would MOO2 or Space Empires or Aurora, it actually isn't bad. It's a bit more reminscent of Stars! in that you're concerned mostly with the big picture and strategic positioning and diplomacy, and individual colonies and technologies are less important. Fleets aren't MOO big, but they're big enough that you rarely care about individual ships.

Yeah, it's more about the overall picture than about tactics and fleet management. I typically end up with influence victories unless I turn them off, just because it is so easy to spam starbases. The tech is fairly straightforward as well. I guess it really is what is says on the tin: Civilization in Spaaaaace.
