That should be able to get through a jump gate. Are there actually jump gates on the points as there should be, i.e. are they named something like "Sol Jump Point #1 (JG)"? Can you see the Jump Gates in the system view?

There was a bug with the jump gates on all points option in that a Sol start would not have the gates but any new system would. This has been fixed by Steve for the next release.

I really don't think so, considering he made both mentions to System View and planets, but none to systems, stars, or the Galactic Map.

Yes, but the context of the statement exactly matches that of someone who figured out that you can save your configuration of the galactic map.

I was, like, at the sixth or so empire that I found how to save position of planets on the system view  ::)

See what I mean? Speculation, of course, but it seems to fit.

Everytime I see the *new* tag on this topic, I assume somebody is posting that version 5.7 is out.

Although, it is really hard to tell when it will come out.  I doubt anybody but Steve can give us any sort of estimate, and he refuses to do so.

This, on both counts. Grah.

For some reason, I don't think I trust the AI on this.

Also, you should also mention them not using the player's designs anymore.

Well, their designs are going to show up in the design window, so presumably they could be altered in SM mode. I thought that my statement implied the latter, though. In any case, I'm much more concentrated on them automatically scrapping their oldest ship not currently carrying cargo when a new one os built, and (IIRC) scrapping all ships more than 15 years old. So in other words, the problem with having dozens of nuclear pulse and ion drive civvie freighters when you're 60 years ahead of that tech is gone, just like that.

Replacing their old crappy ships as new tech becomes available? Great! Designing their own ships? Not so sure about that one...

I hope they don't do like the AI empires do and design a small, cheap, slow ship variant and build a bazillion of them. That's one of the reasons AI empires slow the game down so much. I always limited my civilian fleet to using huge, fast, expensive cargo ships so they would only be able to build a few of them and a couple dozen could do all the trading I needed them to do without slowing the game to a crawl.
