#1: Combat is absurdly micromanagement intensive. It takes a click to select a ship, two clicks to select a fire control, and two more clicks to select a target. Multiply that by 30 ships and you're clicking 150 times every time you kill something. Surely there's a better way?
There are some buttons on the right side of the combat screen. "Copy Assignments" will copy the fire-control weapon assignments to all the taskgroup ships (or Empire ships), depending on which one you push. There should be some others that copy targets in a similar way. And if I remember right, there's a button that will automatically assign each of a single class's firecontrols to a different ship in the enemy fleet somewhere on the window, but only in a way that's useful if you're heavily outnumbered.

Is it normal to find jump points within Mars orbit?

Jump points tend to be further out but they can appear anywhere within the system.

It can't be found after a certain distance, so you don't get jump points out near those thousand AU distance stars.

I've had a jump point between Mercury and Venus before, but I agree they tend towards the outer Solar System.

Hm, this is probably pretty dumb and new-player-ish, but whats the hugest ship ever made?
I plan on one day dedicating a entire planet to constructing a humongous star destroyer.
About the size of jupiter would amuse me.

If you have maintenance turned on, there's kind of an upper limit just because the failure rate becomes ludicrous, to where 95% of your ship has to be maintenance bays.

If you're building civilian and/or have maintenance turned off.....I'm not sure there's an upper limit. I've got a series of 100,000,000-ton orbital habitats that I'm planning. (Of course, a mass of 1x1011 kg still puts them in the range of a *small* near-Earth asteroid.

Granted, since vessels would not be solid, they could be significantly larger in volume than an equal mass of rock, but in general even monster spaceships are going to be mere specks compared to orbital bodies.

The problem with proper Superstructure Ships is that they pretty quickly overflow variables like number of maintenance sections required.

That said, a truly huge ship plated in energy weapons with dozens of meters of armor and everything, possibly with a few hundred servitor ships to fly out and do things like salvage enemy vessels and mine giants for fuel.

I don't know how you'll make it jump capable- you may want to see how large of a ship you can make jump, and design for precisely that.

Still, would be quite awesome if you could have a ship thats a planet in its own right. (i could imagine it like the star trek movie enemy ship, only with more fighter fleets)
Even if its tiny.
Also, im just in the learning stage, and tut 6 isnt updated yet, so i dont know how to make ships jump capable. (i cant say i dont know what jump capabillity is, because thats obvious)

IIRC, the largest jump rating you can have (at maximum tech) is 2,500,000 tons (10000-ton jumpdrive x Jump Efficiency 25).

No need to make it jump capable. If it's that large, just make it capable of building its own jumpgates. Then you have no upper size limit.

Of course, even with a JGC module and maint. off, you're going to run into a problem finding enough fuel to keep going, to the point that you're basically going to drop into a system, send out survey ships, and set up on the largest deposit of Sorium. Actually, one idea would be to make it a tractor-couple, with one half carrying the engines, fuel, and sorium harvesters, and everything else on the other. That way, when you enter a system, you can park the main section somewhere and send the engine section with a fleet of escorts to start sucking the gas giants dry. Obviously you'd also want a number of parasite freighters to set up automated mining colonies, parasite survey ships, tugs to allow for mobile shipyards, etc.

Actually, I've got a bit of a question: If you've got enough hanger space, is it possible to dock a tug that is linked to a shipyard?

As far as I know, the current record for the heaviest/largest actual ship1. actually designed is 52,888,700 tons, which is orders of magnitude less than a planet, and less than half the weight of a small near-Earth asteroid. However it can be crewed with a 'mere' 2.1 million people, and can be built in 3 months (Getting a large enough shipyard to actually build it will take years though). Oh, and it has a thousand missile launchers that launch 100-size missiles.

1. I'm assuming that to qualify the ship doesn't have any orbital habitats on it on it. Just the components that you would fine on a regular vessel (Cargo bays, shields, crew quarters etc.)

See, I don't understand why people would upsize their missiles like that. I'd rather have a few dozen thousand Size-4 launchers.

These are missiles that are larger than some manned spacecraft. Case closed.
