I didn't think the game would let you obsolete fuel storage...

EDIT: I guess it actually does from the ship design screen. At then bottom of the component list, there's an option to show obsolete tech. Enable it, and then select fuel storage again and hit the obsolete component button to toggle it's obsoleteness.

Also the ship obsolete button is in the upper right corner of that screen.
I believe you can also toggle obsolescence from the technology report screen.

Only for designed components, not for fuel storage.

My screen says otherwise. I have a lot of obsolete components, so I don't fancy trying to find the fuel storage buried under the tonne of actually-useless stuff. Also I can't see that obsolete ship in the top-right ¬_¬

I hate that mechanic. It's so annoying that you could have a team of morons that take one look at a planet and say "Yep, it's all tapped out", and then no matter how good of a team you put together later, they won't be able to find anything there.

No, what bothers me is how slow geology teams are on asteroids.  You can finish a whole planet before some small chunk of rock.

Maybe they're taking so long because they're constantly flying off into space from lack of gravity? :P

Hell, you'd probably have to tether a cloning vat to the asteroid to account for them all still being there when you pick them up.

You wouldn't go flying off into space unless you pushed yourself away, which a simple tether would prevent. Asteroids do not have anti-gravity.

Looks interesting. How accessible is it, from CoD to DF?

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

A relative term. To someone who plays DF adventure mode, how hard is it to pick up this particular spreadsheet simulator?

Adventure mode? That would be hard to define as they're different genres.

Well, what's the most complex strategy game you've played?

DF Fortress mode with LazyNewbPack, but that's more of a simulation.

Well, it's about as difficult as DF with sparse tutorials, and minimal graphics about the same as ASCII in detail.

The mouse has a lot more use than in DF, so it will take much less time to learn how to navigate.

The component, missile, and ship/PDC designing is far more complex compared to DF's ease to set up a junk military, but that's also a great benefit, since you can design whatever the hell you want. But it does take much, much more time to set up a working military compared to DF.

As it is turn based, you should not feel as overwhelmed as DF unpaused. Though it's a minor effect.

As you said, this is a spreadsheet simulator. You'll be looking at a lot of white background and there will be around the same amount of detail as ASCII DF.

The combat is completely different to most 4x games. It's not any sort of "PEW PEW CABOOM" but more like "Archer class missile has impacted the hull of USSF Iran. Warhead explosion size 10 detected." In other words, it's like Dwarf Fortress in a 4x game.

The game is as streamlined as DF. Meaning it's very clunky in a multitude of ways.

While this sounds bad, if you have ever played a 4x game before, and want more, this game without a doubt offers about the most you can get out of a 2d turn based 4x game in my opinion. There's without a doubt room for improvements, but there always is for any game, of any type.

I'd have to agree with pretty much everything Tarran said. It's like any other space 4x you've played, just with the complexity and depth cranked up so hard that the dials snapped off.
