My current game has type II, III and IV black holes. Thankfully, my survey ships max out over 5300 km/s. I've taken to naming them after mythological "hells" or creatures suitable for comparison with black holes, so I've have Charybdis, Tartarus and Niflheimr. Doubly sweet when I take to naming the regions beyond them by the black hole that has to be navigated to reach them (Charybdis Pocket, Tartarus Reach, etc.)

So i found this thread and downloaded the game only to realise that the game is literally unplayable unless you have the mega large screen resolution (which is really dumb!)

my resolution literally cannot support above 1024x768, what the heck do i do?
Is it bad that this strikes me as amusing? It's 2012 now and people still consider anything larger than 1024x768 'mega large'?

I didn't have a monitor capable of handling 1280x1024 until about a year ago.

Hell, to me 1024x768 still seems big. I remember seeing my first 320x200 GIF and thinking "Oh my god, that's amazing"  :P

Heh, I'm still using 1024x768.

@mattyb3: ResizeEnable compresses windows, so the window will be smaller, but you'll be able to see everything. Though you shouldn't have trouble with the game creation window, or with horizontal resolution at all; I have the same resolution as you and it doesn't come close to filling the screen, and the only windows that do give me trouble are too tall, rather than too wide. Here, as an example of what I mean(with the Reduced Size Windows option enabled and taskbar locked to the right, rather than bottom):

Aurora on small monitors:
1. Game Parameters -> Reduced Height Windows.
2. Lock taskbar to the right side of your desktop.
3. Run Resize Enable

Hm, that is odd, wonder why mines so different?  :-\

well i'lll fiddle around with it some more, but as 'hilarious' as it may seem... Buying a new monitor that supports more than 1024x768 is most certainly out of the question!  :P

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't making fun of you. It just struck me as odd because I consider it a pretty archaic resolution to be using really. I do hope you find a way to make it work, it is a very good game.

Hah, I wish I wasn't using a laptop with this resolution-at least then I'd have the possibility of getting a larger monitor!  :P

Unrelated: My current game's tech is massively screwed up. I'm a decade in from a standard start, and am only now getting a C&P researcher, so that is incredibly stunted, as is my EW tech, but OTOH I have absurdly high M&K tech for this point (L4 Gauss tech, etc.). Going to be trouble if I get early Swarm, as I have no lasers or railguns, and not enough missile throw weight to outdamage their shields.  :-X

edit: Finally ran into some Precursors.

They had 6 FACs with 10km/s speed (yeah, I'm sure they were Precursors, rather than other... things) and a single cruiser that outranged my own ships by 70m km. Thankfully, I had heavy enough PD that that, combined with a number of ASMs used in AMM capacity, I took only a single STR-4 hit to one of my two PD cruisers out of roughly 112 missiles, which only cratered the armor. Their cruiser had a >3x speed advantage and attempted to ram, but I ordered my destroyers to flush their XO racks, increasing the total volley strength of the squadron to 40 Sabre 4as. The enemy ship only had an armor strength of 2, and my ships had a 116% hit rate, despite its 7km/s speed, and it was destroyed entirely.

So I think the next generation of missiles may be seeing a size increase in order to increase their effective range, because my lighter units are designed for harrassment, and really shouldn't be closing to 15m km to fire.

Actually, to my knowledge yes, they are supposed to be capped at 10k km/s.  ???

Maybe Steve changed that with the 5.56 patch without telling anyone.

I found the fast FACs in the third system I've encountered that race in. I've positivly identified them elsewhere (1 jump from sol to be exact).

I'd say just SM communicate with them, if you really want to find out.

In other news, just discovered a rather nice system with 0.81x, 2.50x, and 5.32x worlds 5 jumps from Sol. I've got 50% spawn rate for NPRs, so it's basically a coin flip between "I have a nice new forward base, or will in a few decades, anyway" and "Thank gog, someone to fight with". That's a win-win if I ever saw one.  :D

Oh, and those Precursors were strange. No recovered engines, but their engine tech was above par for them. Their armor was great (9200 RP for Compressed Carbon YEEAAAAAAH), and they had L3 ECM, but their missiles and FC were crap. Oh well, nearly 1/4 of my next armor tech is done.

Okay, just went back and check the contacts and noticed that I had added a zero. Looks like the Swarm was moving slowly.
