likely, but irrelevant. It was a thought experiment, not an awesome design of awesomeness show off.

Not with magneto-plasma drives you don't. Also fighters can use the +power techs, which are dangerous on a battleship.

Not with magneto-plasma drives you don't. Also fighters can use the +power techs, which are dangerous on a battleship.

My early-game Battleships aren't fancy, they aren't clean, require massive amounts of support, and they sure as hell aren't cheap, but they get the job done.

A single missile cruiser running at 10km/s could outrange and destroy it with crappy missile tech.

1 armor column and no shields.  God help you if you ever run across a rock laying in the road.  Or an enemy laser that could easily EASILY deliver 20 internal damage.  Hope you like watching 269 engines exploding in synchronized order as your first touch of damage triggers a chain reaction~

...actually that sounds rather beautiful.

That battleship devotes more than 67,000 tons to engines  :o. So I think the lesson here is that you can build a battleship faster than a fighter, but it's ridiculously inefficient.

I don't actually start getting into ships that large till the latter third of the respective tech trees, but I could theoretically build it. To be fully functional, though,  I'd probably be getting into the range of 250,000-300,000 tons, which wouldn't make it a battleship anymore.

But yea, this game really needs something like that..

It also needs more Megaprojects/Stupid Dwarf Tricks, although I guess super-massive world-ships could count as that.. or ships meant to capture Swarm Queens alive..
