Eh, one of you guys can make a google doc out of it if you like - I'm happy with using it as a downloadable spreadsheet. I made it way back in January 2010 so I don't really feel like messing with it to get it on google docs heh.

Also: So the game actually prevents you from making designs smaller than size 1? Because I was looking forward to making 2-stages filled with dozens of tiny submunitions way down the line.  :-\

Yea, it's a shame. I wanted to make .5 or .2 sized anti missiles since they would be so cheap and I could store loads of them in a small magazine. The cost of my AM Missiles is getting really high, the latest model with my current tech is up to 2.85 per missile.

Spoiler:  AM Missile (click to show/hide)

It has a 122% chance to hit my AS missile, which is a bit overkill lol. The range is also kinda high for an AM missile, but I guess it'll give the ship plenty of time to shoot down all of them if it can start firing them at over 3m km away. I should go on the official forums and suggest an option to use older tech in missiles so you can design cheaper AM missiles at high techs.

3m km? That's crazy! Why would you EVER need an AMM that can go that far?!

I imagine plasma torps take a bit of effort to shoot down. And it could help against massive spam of size-1 missiles that a certain other group tends to use a lot.

Heh, the range is 3m km because with the fuel efficiency so high (0.3) it only takes 0.0056 missile size to get that far. If I could make fractional size missiles I'd do it at like 0.5m km and make it really small, but you have to bulk it up to size 1 somehow and adding such small amounts to the engine or maneuver doesn't do a whole lot. Plus it could be handy if my ship runs out of regular missiles to be able to fire the AMMs off before entering beam range.

I'm using a size 10 missile for my fighters in box launchers. Less range than my long range size 4 missile, but a much larger warhead big enough to deal 2 damage through armor thickness 6. It's fast enough that even against a ship moving away from it at 10km/s it will have a range of 34.7m km which is still decent, and it has a 100% hit rate against ships moving that speed (which is about as fast as I've seen ships go, even the big bad ships).

I just used it to great effect against

What does it mean when I have letters in brackets on my ships? Example, I have a jump scout and on the fleet orders page it is down as JSC Enterprise (A) (T). So far all I've used it for is exploring JPs.

Also, do teams require infrastructure/terraforming to be used on a planet?

Will the motherships still make ships from wrecks?

@ Chattox

Teams do not require infrastructure or terraforming. You could drop them on an asteroid and they'd still get to work.

No idea about the other thing, sorry  :-\

Thanks for the pointers on missiles, folks. I'm slightly concerned that I'm ten years in or so and still putzing around with basic tech and such, but everything else is good to know.

The one ship I'm currently having issues with uses lasers that strike my unarmored ships for 24 points of damage and it's already on top of Earth, so I'll probably OOB some ships in to return the favor.

I really need to get some war machines rolling in.  :-\

If you're going to OOB your problems away, do what I do: Make a ship design with several hundred box launchers, load them with missiles in the Ord. tab of the ship design window. Everything apart from launchers, ammo, fire control and sensors is superfluous. Move a ship close to the enemy vessel (within missile range for the new class), then OOB dozens of the new class into that ship's TG. Repeat as necessary. After problems are gone, delete the ships.

Also, just upgraded to IE9 (I know, omglol he uses IE wat a luser), and WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS WHY IS MY FAVORITES LIST ON THE RIGHT FUCK YOU MICROSOFT.

If I remember right, these means your ship have its active sensors and its transponder on.

If it's right above earth, you could also design and build a meson pdc just to destroy it.

What is with the planet numbering in systems anyway?

Looking at a system now, it has: planets A I, A III, A VI. What happened to II, IV, and V? Did the Death Star come by when I wasn't looking?

If I had to go with another brower, I'd probably go to FF. I don't trust anything about Google anymore. I especially don't trust them to find porn for me not record my search history and sell it.  :P

To make this marginally on topic: When I looked at Paul's nifty little spreadsheet, my first response was along the lines of an incoherent shout of joy. My second one was "Holy shit, I'm looking at a spreadsheet, but I'm not hating it!". Maybe because it was a spreadsheet designed to optimize my ability to blow the shit out of things, rather than to model the behavior of a frictionless cart for high school physics.

EDIT: AND GOD DAMN THOSE TOUHOU REMIXES ARE STILL DOWNLOADING! Dorm internet IS as shitty as my connection at home!

I'm still working on my missile tech. 80 agility, 10 x msp warheads and Magneto engines are cutting edge right now.

Chrome has gone overboard with sites they own. It pissed me off when they forced me to make a google account to login to Youtube and when they threw ads all over the place. Thank god for AdBlock.

EDIT: I have a topic, how big are these missiles even supposed to be in real terms? Let's just take a size 1 missile for example.
