Maybe you should build more academies.
Make a handful of them, and you'll never again worry about lacking any kind of officers. In fact, you'll have so many of them, you'll be tripping officers.

On another note: I already found a 0.0 cost planet one jump from Sol with Tau Ceti III... Well, one of the systems that Tau Ceti links to is Wolf 424, which happens to ALSO have an uninhabited 0.0 cost world. Which god(dess) have I pleased lately?

And yes that was phrased as vaguely as possible.


EDIT: THE FUCK?!

Those Sigma Draconis fuckers just showed up in Wolf 424... at the exact fucking moment that my 6-ship freighter/transport section was dropping off my star xenologist team, an engineer brigade and a DS tracking station... DELETION TIME.

Also, they're trying to kill my freighter with AMMs, which are all being blocked by the armor that ISN'T THERE. lolol.

Edit: Well, all my freighters got splashed, but I deleted the universe folded in on itself and wiped out the enemy race, and a flotilla of massive blobs of metal covered in hundreds of size-36 box launchers mysteriously appeared, wrecked the enemy ships, and then I deleted their task group strangely vanished.

Also, they're listed as part of the Wolf 424 aliens, so it looks like those were *SPOILERS*Precursors*SPOILERS*.

Actually, according to the combat descriptions, every battle was essentially a massive orgy.



inteuniso: No, it means that and then we were the robots.


But yes, I was plopping down ruins to see what would happen. And it was the surprise more than anything else that made me laugh. (That was a lol in the sense of "Hey that actually made me make a noise resembling laughter" and not "I am mildly amused and/or bored by this")

Got bored in my game after finally finding the NPR and finding them just sitting there with a tiny crumbling low tech fleet with a world devoid of minerals, smushed them like a bug. Disappointing, Steve really needs to up homeworld minerals - at least for the NPRs even if he does want to keep Earth limited. Or at least make them smart enough to focus on acquiring more minerals before wasting them all.

Still no other aliens at all, not even a ruin. Decided to turn invaders option on. Promptly had them appear right on top of me in Sol after only about a month, was kinda hoping they'd show up in one of the other systems lol. I killed the first ship they sent, but they sent more. Long story short, 1.4 billion die in bombardment.

Funny that I gained 400 million people in only 15 years though (2025-2040).

The tutorial Steve made (link in the OP) can help you get started, but it isn't very deep and misses a lot of stuff. Really, the way I've started getting into it was just through trial and error, and asking lots of questions.

Hey, they attacked me first. They shot down my exploration ship, and fired on my fleet when it arrived. I just returned fire. Lots of return fire until there was nothing left of their fleet but space dust, but they started it.

So, uh, any pointers for getting into the swing of this? I seem to have fallen down that mile I mentioned making on the learning cliff a while back.

Basically, where and how do I start? I can poke and prod on my own time, but I need to start somewhere.

When I got into it (back when this thread first surfaced like 19 months ago) I just played with it for a few days until I got the hang of it. I started with making a new game and letting it pick tech for me, then just spent time exploring the interface a bit and playing. Then I later restarted and picked my own starting techs once I knew what was what.

Was hooked when I finally had my first successful warship kill the swarm that was in the next system with a bunch of missiles. Took several tries, my very first one was missing something vital. I think I forgot the active sensors? Then the next one died because I couldn't get my ship to turn ON the active sensors. I think I lost ships once because I forgot to actually produce missiles for my missile launchers to fire too. Finally working it all out and defeating them was fun though.

Thats why I was so bored with this game, I remember all the action I had in my games before - this one was the first getting back into the game with the more recent releases, and all I find is an empty galaxy and nothing for my ships to fight but some crummy NPR that didn't even move off his home planet.


Also, one tip I'm finding useful in the latest version: Auto 1 day turns instead of 5 day turns. The game seems to calculate stuff, especially civilian ships, better when its on 1 day increments instead of 5 or 30. I noticed when I was doing 30 day turns and even 5 day turns the civ ships weren't working as well, they'd be almost to their destination before you click and then just finish their trip in a day or two and sit there the rest of the time because it wasn't rechecking their orders in between the days. Running auto 1 day turns will check every day, so the ships move every day instead of sitting around wasting time. And it stops every time an interupt hits (research done, orders finished, or officers joining it seems - as well as the obvious sensor contacts and such).

Speaking of the automated turns thing, anyone know if you can select what interrupts you and what doesn't? I have so many new officers coming now that I built more academies that every 5 days it stops. If I could just make it stop only on important stuff I could have it run until something happened that needed my attention every time.

I wish you could edit interrupts. The other day I asked about it for task force secondary orders, and right now I'm being constantly spammed with unrest messages from venus (they keep reproducing just over the limit, dying, then doing it again making morale swing up and down every turn) and luna (the low gravity people are mad they are a minority, I never would have created them if I would have known they were going to be so bitchy. I'd just delete them all except venus interrupts my turns anyway so it wouldn't help anything)

Edit: as for autoing 1 vs 5 day turns, it comes down to the subpulse. If you set the same subpulse manually then they should be (afaik) the same. I don't know what subpulse length 1 day turns use by default, though
