Why don't you both? You can easily explore other systems while putting geosurvey teams on everything.
That might work. Part of the problem is the mentioned lack of ships and rapid depletion of resources. If the geosurvey teams do their jobs, I can start setting up automated mines and mass drivers that  will actually turn a profit. On the other hand, if nothing comes up at all, then I'll have to hoard resources even more carefully. Is it possible to actually get stuck in your starting system, if you don't get a jump tender/jump gate built before resources run out?
Yes.

In my opinion if you are truly stuck in the starting system, and have already surveyed all bodies on it but still don't have enough minerals, it wouldn't be too bad to give one of your planets a small amount of the minerals you need, through space master (you can edit mineral amounts and availability through the system window with the space master mode active)

Or just give yourself the bare minimum ships needed to get out and start mining elsewhere.

How, that's hurting. On the other hand, I had it coming.

Also, Iituem, I feel bad about saying it now, since you though so much about that and all. But South Maver wasn't supposed to be a Brentian territory, but a New Empire territory, using the alliance rules. Saying as Sheb McBrent died and nobody has been crowned Emperor yet, the difference is important.

Making my own system doesn't seem to work, gives me an error. And I can't get my species to breathe methane.

I don't think you can make species that breath anything but oxygen. I might be wrong though.

They should be able to breathe methane if their homeworld has methane but not oxygen.

Anyone figure out how to increase your private shipping lanes? I've had 2 freighter running around for 20+ years but that's all that my private sector has ever managed.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

More colonies result in more civilian activity for me.

Also, any hints for dealing with the worm hole aliens with near-starter tech?

You can subsidize them from the shipping lines screen. There's a button for it over on the right side of the system map. Pressing "subsidize" will give them 1000 monies from your own stockpile. They have a tendency to just give it away sometimes rather than spend it on new ships, and I haven't really figured out if it's better to give them a bunch of cash all at once or doll it out in small amounts.

...Run away? Well, either that or shoot LOADS of missiles at them.

Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Second this. Run away if you can. If they are somewhere where you can't run away, shoot it with LOTS of missiles. As in, more missiles than you ever thought possible to shoot. It certainly has very good PD, armor, shields, and everything else. If you have box launchers, use them to fire more missiles at once. You want to kill them all in one shot, and it's quite unlikely that your ships will be able to flee once in combat range.
