Well, did it explode on its own? Or was it shot down by aliens? If it exploded on its own, you didn't include enough mainenance supplies, and some components failed and went BOOM.

I have a question:

I would love to start at a low low tech planet start (possibly by lowering the starting year to 1960 and halfing my research pool)

Will that get me uttarly massacred?
You could start without an NPR at first, just don't have aurora generate an NPR from the start. You'll still run into some eventually as you explore.

What?

Sorry I said soemthing about the game not working because it never finishes a task

It is more of a problem with how the game calculates competion time (either that or advancing by a day will never allow it to finish). I fixed it by advancing 30 days.

Though I am noticing that some factories won't build certain ships for no reason... (Yes I am aware of retooling... I mean they won't retool)

I assume it is because some factories can't retool to certain ships.

Unfortunately my construction ship is over 70 tons.

It says it is a construction ship.

According to its components, it builds jump gates.

70 tons? That's one light spaceship.

Is there a way to set the game up to tell me when something is done or I notice something?

It's likely not bad. Sometimes jump points just start with jump gates.

The game is telling you everything on the Event window. You can also edit the options so that the events show up on the system map screen (it's under "display".)

Andrea: did you check the "Jump Gate on all Jump Point" function in the beginning? If not, it means some aliens visited your system. And they're probably more advanced than you. Let's hope they're pacifists.

OR it means that the jump gates were just randomly generated. It can happen, you know.
