I don't think you can share intelligence, so sending a scout may be the best option.

I think the argument he's making is that you design 'military' support vessels, such as troop transports and tankers and the like, and by arming them with CIWS you keep them officially classed as 'commercial'. So your tankers, transports, etc. are now immune to maintenance and can be built at your spare commercial shipyards.

He's not suggesting random commercial ships should have a couple of CIWS in the event they're ambushed by a fleet - that'd be useless and expensive. He's arguing that ships intended to be used in the line of duty can be defended with CIWS to prevent them being officially designated as 'military'. Of course, you'd have to use commercial engines, too, so it's not like there wouldn't be a few drawbacks...

CIWS don't make a military ship commercial. They just don't make a commercial ship military.

Yup, so you can use them to give some protection to "commercial" ships that are supposed to see the frontline: Troop transport, tanker, supplies ships...

Has anyone run into the "Missing msstdfmt.dll" error running windows 7? I've tried downloading the file and running "regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll" but it seems like it isn't able to find it.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Fixed the issue (Had to just move the .ddl file to the system folder instead of system32) but now have a new question. Does anyone mind giving me a quick rundown on how civilian contracts work? For example, if I set up a supply contract on Mars for mines will they produce mines on Mars or will they try to supply mines from Earth to Mars?

I think they can get infrastructure from the population, but when I've tried make them do it, while they did in fact got the infrastructure, it was slow and I was bombarded with impossible job announcements.

That's because civilian-made infrastructure is treated as trade goods. Your contracts are impossible because they require already made infrastructure. Trade-good infrastructures are treated as trade goods, and thus aren't considered as actual infrastructure until they're built by a colony.

You can get Infrastructures (the stuff used to live on unhospitable planets) for free, but not factories and the like. And no need to ask for them, as long as you've got a colony, they'll provide it with infrastructures and populations as long as they're around.

Regarding commercial troop transports, this is only possible if you do not include combat drop modules.
