Oh, for some reason I thought he was talking about maintenance. I be smart.

One thing to note - if you're counting on your carriers for active sensor pings, make sure that your carriers can actually stand up to a beating - I've had a battle go pear-shaped on me because the enemy blew up my carriers, and without them my twenty or so fighters were unable to shoot at their targets.

Welp, I couldn't resist playing this any longer so I'm downloading it right now. Ten bucks says my first empire ends like my first fort, everybody starves to death.

This is why dedicated sensor ships are awesome.  At the extremes, you can go either the cheap and expendable route (e.g. sensor fighters/gunboats) or the decoy route (i.e. a mass of armor and shields with a sensor attached).

You can also slap a much larger sensor array on a dedicated sensor ship.

I'm planning on having a dedicated sensor ship for my fleets, only armed with CIWS and lots and lots of armour and/or shields. I'll probably also have specialised fighters with active sensors to light up the enemies for my squadrons.

Yes. It's a very large planet with a thick crust but a very large, dense core full of the minerals but also making them hard to get to.

Yeah - you can see some pretty nuts planets - here's one that I've got a colony on (actually got it down to col cost 0 pretty easily, which is great, since I'm going to need a _lot_ of mines to dig all this up.)

I got lucky in a previous game, where a planet one jump from was cost 2 and had those crazy amounts, but also had accessibility of .5+ for all but two of them. Too bad that game ate a short interval bug.

It's not usually a bug. It's how NPRs handle their own battles. Patience (and the auto-turn mode) generally gets you through those phases.

Yes, well, after the first hour of doing other stuff I just said screw it. Wanted to do things differently anyways.

You can always go into spacemaster mode and watch/delete the battle.

Checked out the system where I found hostile aliens around 15 years ago with my first working destroyer. All that's there is the wreck of one of their small 800t 'bandit' class ships. Explains all the short increments I've been getting over the past years, they may be at war. Unless that was just a series of maintenance failures.

NPR are exempt from maintenance failures i think.

So they are properly at war.

Hmmm. It just seems strange that one single, FAC style ship is a wreck on an outlying asteroid as opposed to twenty wrecks. Is there a way to scan wrecks for tactical info on ships and to get tech from them?
