Finally came to understand the taskforce/taskgroup system. Now that I understand it, it's quite straightforward... just like DF.  :D

Now for a new question: Colonization. I think I just dumped 30 000 poor souls on their bare naked ass into the red dust of Mars. How does one go about setting up a new colony?

You have to transfer some infrastructure if you haven't already terraformed Mars, because that's what sustains the population. Without enough infrastructure your colonists will get very grouchy but won't die.

Yep, the population growth will be negative indicating less births than deaths until either it stabilizes or they all die.

I've got a couple civilian mining colonies, but they don't seem to do anything.  What does the Civilian Mining Complex do?

They mine things. Like normal mines.

However, they have something that's unique from normal automated mines: What they mine can be either converted into cash, or stay at minerals (at the price of you having pay for it). You can change from between the two in the Civilian/Ind tab of the Populations window, lower left, Civilian Mining Complexes Status. Also, they have mass drivers.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I recall that I had to transport mass drivers to all my civilian mining complexes myself in 5.30. They do get a garrison for free though.

Sigh. Did that for about 45 minutes. New game time.

Just go to SM mode and find the log,And nuke the system they are fighting in.

This can result in funkyness tho.

I don't see why you'd need to.  Every CMC counts as a mass driver plus 10 automated mines.  So long as your mining output doesn't overwhelm the built-in mass drivers (AFAIK this never happens), your civvies should be able to launch every last ounce of minerals to your colonies.

I tried that, but I couldn't find any indication which system it is. I have suspicions, based on some recent ship activity and some wrecks I located, but still...In any case, I'm already several years into a new game that I like more. Might poke around and blow up systems to see if it helps me learn SM mode a bit better though, in a game I don't care about anymore >:)

I figured out the problem with picking up the team, you can't double click it, you have to click 'Add Move'.

Do xenologist teams automatically start working when dropped off on a planet with ruins?

A question I too would like answered. I dropped of a geo team on Mars, and while their rating (What is that btw?) increases, as well as their skills, no new minerals seem to appear and nothing in the event log indicates they do anything but sit around.
