Jump drives are for going through warp points without gates. Gates allow all ships of a certain size to pass through.

And jump drives have a size limit as well. This includes both them and the ship's size combined. Yes you need an engine as well.

At least the guy (Steve) from Aurora knows what is a mouse and a windowed control, if you follow me  ;)
Too bad he refuses to make the interface scale to other monitor sizes.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Ok. When I shorten the box, from what ever side, its always the bottom that loses the text/info/buttons. How that works, I have no clue.
Hmmm... A screen shot may help. Because right now I've got no idea.

Back to the game, I don't understand stuff around jump gate and jump drive. I designed an engine which is hyper capable, but the scout bearing it can't travel an explored jump gate, why? Is it related to 'hyper limit'? That this engine don't use jump gate but after the hyper limit accelerate to hyper speed?

Then that would mean that I need a jump drive instead, in addition to regular engine?
Yes, because a Hyperdrive isn't a Jump drive. Hyperdrives are improvements to engines that allow your ship to enter hyperspace; it allows the ship to go X10 the maximum speed while it's outside the Hyper limit (which you can see highlighted in light blue by selecting the "Hyper limit" button in the Display tab in the System Map window).

A Jump drive is a separate item that allows you to travel/jump with or without three ships the same size or a smaller size of the ship with the Jump drive to other systems without having a Jump Gate on a Jump point. Remember though, when designing a Jump Drive the ship mounting the Drive has to be smaller or exactly the same size as the Drive's limit in order for it to function correctly. If it isn't he Jump Drive won't work.

According to the wiki, military Jump Drives can escort (bring ships along with the jumping ship) ships with both military engines and commercial engines. Commercial Drives can only escort ships with commercial engines. So if you plan to jump military engine'd ships, you have to use a military JD.

Prepostedit: Darn, ninja'd. Well, my post has more information, so haha.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

And last I played, Hyperdrives were nearly useless.

No, if it only works with one size then it doesn't SCALE at all.

Ug. When I shorten the box i.e Change the size of it from either the top or the bottom, the useless info i.e The top stuff is saved and squished up to the top of the box, WHILST the stuff down the bottom is REMOVED from the box ENTIRELY, like it was never there. i.e This UI is crap.

I see interest in this has resurged, I had/have the same problem as you Forsaken. I have an HP dv7. at its maximum it appears to have everything, the only window I "think" is missing any info is the ship design window, and the computer has a maximum window hight that is just shorter then the hight I need to view the lower row of required buttons.

Basically im doing other things until steve grows a heart and changes his window arrangement or makes them resizable. it is however the only 4x game that I've played, if only partially, that really fills the advertised acronym. Stardock makes nice ones but as they progress they continue to strip down their games to simple RTS games, its sort of anticlimactic when you have found all the planets and exterminated half the races in the sector in twenty minutes when you had wanted to play the benevolent diplomat (SSE).

Yeah, I run my primary monitor at 1920x1080 and my secondary at 1440x900, neither of these accommodates the hardcoded window height though they exceed the width. It should not be all that hard to have the interface scale, he just refuses to do it because he simply doesn't care, or doesn't know how.

What? You saying that your x1080 isn't enough for the hardcoded height? That's weird, since mine is x1050 and all the windows fit just fine.

Yeah... what? The 'minimum resolution' is, IIRC, 1280x1024. I remember this because it's the highest non-widescreen resolution my monitor can render, and it just worked.

Unless something's changed since I last played and he made the windows bigger, of course...  :o

Yeah my mistake, I had the resolution wrong. Was on my laptop so that was from memory, both of my monitors are 1440x900. I don't know why I thought one was bigger, except perhaps because I haven't yet slept.

I'm lucky that XP has screen-scrolling, or I wouldn't be able to play this awesome game

ok, question time again!

1. Building ships components in opposition to building ships? What for? This is to stockpile parts and then build rapidly the ships? As components are build by industries, perhaps then it means that the shipyards will use this stockpile and thus build very fast (assemble) a ship? That would be a cool feature.

2. How do I load a ground units? Do I need a cryo bay as for a colony ship?

3. What is the difference between a cryo bay and a luxury accommodation?

4. How can I name a governor for Earth? I got to the command window, administrator category, I have several, one being A5 and Earth needs only A2. I select both item (the admin and earth), click on Assign and nothing happen. So?

Thanks in advance

(I'm posting here because I'm still not approved at the official forum, this s***cks ...)
