Is it normal to have 90% of the planets in a system have no minerals?

Yea sometimes. I encounter it alot.  Old stars tend to have fewer minerals, and systems can also have a number of minerals common to the system.  But I imagine it's also possible to have a bias towards having no minerals as well, and when combined with a really old star I imagine it's possible to have really barren systems.

Really I'm only ever finding good amounts of minerals in nebula systems.  And since those are typically less than .05 GY old I guess it makes sense.

The age of a star? How do you even tell that?

you know how a geology text book is helpful for DF?

Astronomy is helpful for Aurora. My sleep idle mind say its mostly on size and color. red are older generally. Yellow stars are generally middle age.

The only thing i know about age is that when most of the gases burn up they turn into white dwarf stars.....(tried but couldn't think of a good DF pun  :()

the bigger the star, the hotter it burns, the faster it ages.
massive stars go boom, while small red stars tend to linger for Megayears.

As the fuel in a star runs out, it will change in colour as well, but I'm no stellar engineer so i refer to wikipedia. :p

Well theirs that little GV number at the top of the system info labeled 'age' too.  I may have had the wrong wording, as it appears to track the age of the system instead of the ages of individual stars, but I imagine in most cases it's close enough to be the same thing.

GV I assume is something like galactic years.  Which I assume is number of orbits around the center of the galaxy.  I couldn't find a source though so take it with a grain of salt.

Anyone know a lot about the SM editor? I want to mess around with it to make some fun situations.

Also, lets try to make up some scenarios or restrictions to make the game more interesting.

For example, you cannot make any ships bigger then 10000 tons! (can you place these for the NPRs???)

You cant place arbitrary limits on NPR, unless you play as them.

They also tend to get hotter as they age, meaning older stars will have a habitable zone further out then younger stars.

Hokay, time for attempt number four at getting this to work.

What's the latest version number?

Currently it's 4.91. Version 5.0 should be coming out sometime soon with a bushel load of new features and as save compatibility breaks between major versions I'd suggest using the time till then to muck around learning how to use the interface and various systems.

I'd prefer if he just threw out the entire UI he uses and made a new one. Really, there's no point in trying to display everything on the screen at once, some people know how to use scrollbars! And some things could have been done with context menus.
