Vista has a long history of failing at running games.

I have not once had the slightest problem running things under vista, aside from a few issues requiring something be run in admin mode because I didn't think to install it somewhere other than the default location. :/

Vista has its faults, but it works fine for most thing honestly. Windows 7 is so much more stable and efficient though, I couldn't imagine going back.

lol !!

old dos games are often optimized using strange alchemical methods rendering them very exotic to later emulator-modes on vista or even XP.

It can be annoying, but just imagine a now where software were optimized rather than standardized...
(meh. . . software standardization is mediocre at best.)

Yea, X-com UFO, TFTD, APOC, Interceptor, and enforcer(god what a peice of crap) all work fine under vista for me.  Of course those are using dosbox to do it, but they work.  XP wouldn't run any of them without dosbox either if I recall.

Aurora also seems to work fine for me under vista.  I had to get that one .dll (I think it's mentioned in the OP) but other than that, no issues.

My college is a microsoft shop so I could get a free legal copy of 7 if I would just ask for it being a Computer Engineering student, but after the original setup I haven't had any significant problems with vista, so I haven't bothered.  Vista can't be that bad if I don't bother to go one building over and up 1 elevator to get a free copy of 7.

Anyway back on topic for me, anybody ever consider making a large PDC that is 90% hangar deck to try to cut down on maintenance costs for ships that just spend most of their lives waiting around?  Would it work? Is it insane? Is it dwarfy?

Interesting idea.

I think it would be have to be a cost assignment, but there are no number limits for the planet installations. So PDC hangar will probably cost prohibited.

.... 90% hangar... 5% armor... 5% crew...    That might work if you have a small-ish number of ships of small-large size or a decent fleet of small-ish ships....

(Armor so that I don't lose docked ships unexpectedly from the off-chance that enemy gets in first strike...)

I shall have to try it myself later...

I want to use my remaining PDC quick build points to build a PDC in another system, how do i do this? Or does the game only quick build on your home planet?

Never tried it.
I'd imagine it should work identical as you build stuff on your homeworld, but from the relevant colony.

You have to have a task group in that other system.  Just point to that TG.
