yea i posted it on both forums figuring id not get a fast answer on Aurura forum. guess i was wrong :)

My survey vessels are probably too big, i definately cant get a 1% failure rate, that seems almost impossible...  Currently i think im doing too much of a all in one ship. Looking at ship design forums etc to get some idea's.

Annual Failure Rate: 18%    IFR: 0.3%    Maint Capacity 1373 MSP    Max Repair 150 MSP    Est Time: 9.58 Years

J2600(1-50) Military Jump Drive     Max Ship Size 2600 tons    Distance 50k km     Squadron Size 1
Nuclear Pulse Engine E8 (2)    Power 40    Fuel Use 80%    Signature 40    Armour 0    Exp 5%

Improved Gravitational Sensors (1)   2 Survey Points Per Hour
Improved Geological Sensors (1)   2 Survey Points Per Hour

This design is classed as a military vessel for maintenance purposes

This is my little Surveyor ship 18% failure chance and .03 increase per year. These things can stay out for about 15 years on average.

On the flip side, they've spend four years in overhaul.

thanks for that build there wiggles, my design has 40% failure rate :) Too many engines i guess.

However, new question arising, I found xenological ruins on a colony, i have a xenological team, but they arent discovering the ruins....

is it just some chance per year they find the ruins? anyone have experience yet?

I now have 2 xenological teams on the planet and they are getting nothing for over 2 years.

All team activities are long term. You'll get a message in the event window once they are done. Just make sure that for the xeno, spy, and geo team it is set up as a colony and the teams are physical on the colny. Then leave them alone for a very long time.

My OCD forces me to make both geo and grav survey ships military... :'(

I guess my geo and grav survey ships are extremely simple compared to yours. I have a single military engine, a single geo or grav sensor, basic life support/crew modules that it comes with and then topped up with engineering spaces to let it stay out for a long time.

Oh and a single long range active search sensor.

Mk3 Will have a better sensor suit. A much better sensor suit.

That the major failing of design, is that it as no active or em sensor.

Eh, as I'm not in the habit of putting my survey ships anywhere near combat they only carry a low cost active sensor, nothing else.

guys, what the hell is with maintenance facilities and the research related to them that apparently does nothing like what it says?

the research description for maintenance facilities says

title : Maintenance production 70 sp per annum
Increases production of maintenance supplies by each maintenance facility to 14 supply points per year

Not only does the title mismatch with point production it seems??, but my maintenance facilities sure dont produce any maintenance supplies! i have to produce them all via industry :(

is this broken , bug, or .... am i blind?

edit- the official tutorial makes no mention of maintenance facilities making supplies

Quote
• Maintenance Facility: A maintenance facility is able to maintain ships of a certain size in orbit. Each level of maintenance facility increases that size by 200 tons, so a Level 20 Maintenance Facility could handle ships of up to 4000 tons. If a ship of the maximum size or less is in orbit, it does not suffer maintenance failures and therefore does not use up spares.

Edit #2-

The research doesnt reduce the cost of the supplies to build with industrial facilities either..... wtf?

They must though. I never built them via the factory,

Ok, I just built a 40,000 MSP holding cargo ship, actually 3 of them at a shipyard on earth, Earth had 30,800 msp before the building of the cargo ships...

i built all 3 ships each holding 40,000 MSP, equalling 120,000 MSP, and earth still has 30,800 MSP..... Something isnt adding up here.

The ships then may be built with the maintenance supplies included in the cost.

And i answered your question on the aurora forums but for anyone who is curious.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

(EDIT: turns out that maintenance facilities used to produce supplies, but not anymore)

yup, seems its an old useless tech and has no use currently, unless steve readds the ability to produce supplies like before, which is pretty important i think... so hopefully he does.

It's still useful, for ships that have failures and that your not currently using. You store them on a planet with maintenance facilities and poof, no more failures. I tried putting my survey ships into orbit on a colony in a different system but they kept getting failures, pulled them back to earth to stop the waste of maintenance supplies.
