Well here is the answer from the designer himself

I know you need a missile fire control AND active sensor, but why does the missile fire control need the same active sensor technology and resolution technology as the active sensor? Why doesn't it have similar features tot he beam fire controls? How do the missiles use this?
As in real life, a missile fire control system is a specialised active sensor intended to track known targets rather than search for new ones. If you do a google search for "Search Radar" and for "Fire Control Radar", that will explain the differences.

Well that makes sense. It would need resolution and active sensors if it continued to track a known target handed to it by the search sensor.

Gonna ask this here and on their forums. Can anyone explain about Civilian Mining Colonies? What causes them to form? How do I buy their minerals? etc...

There's a random chance based on the civilian economy rating of them forming on certain rocks, based on minerals and whether or not you have a populated colony in the system. You can buy from them under the economy tab, if I remember right. There's a little explanation and a checkbox or something down in one corner.

yep;

econony (f2) : select civ mining outpost : civilians/Ind tab :
same box as the one that sets a planet as colonist source/destination.

I only buy minerals if they are in short supply; letting them sell them freely brings in extra salestax!

Buying them if they have the resources to make financial centers is a good idea to. In the long run you save money.......Now that i think about it, you could sell them back after you mined everything, couldn't you?

What do the financial centers do, and why is it better to have them?

This is why us Bay12ers should go there and start filling out their wiki for them.

Financial centers increase your wealth. Allowing you to do more at once without a slowdown of production.

As the desc says for the research. It expands the civilian sector economy, allowing them to earn more money, allowing them to buy more ships, allowing to do more jobs, and in the end, allowing you to get more taxes from them.

Does that increase the % chance of them getting new stuff, or is there some sort of max number of ships they can have?

They buy ships when able. Its probably tries to once every five days or once a month. They own as many ships as they can.

I am posting this today at 11:49pm on February 14th 2010, to state that I have successfully completed the reading of 116 pages of the Dwarf Fortress Aurora game thread.

You guys know that we should all comb through this thread and create a private Aurora Wiki right?

You do know how much information is garnered in the last 116 pages of questions etc right?

let me tell you, a fuck ton. the Aurora wiki and tutorials dont even compare.

I have put 3 days into playing Aurura while reading these forums and oh my god, this game is BEAUTIFUL!

Do PDC's even need magazines? Or will they auto reload their launchers from whatever is on the planet?  (50% chance for NPR's didn't do anything...should make it 100% next time)
