Is it wise to send my officers to battle on 1kT ships?

okay I might get some intel and my ships will react a bit faster.
But I'm relying on their size being too small for their tracking and a nice ASM alphastrike, then run like hell.
A single missile hit will probably destroy a corvette and kill its officer.

Also should I train untill my crews are masters or have them train on live targets?
(I'm thinking training is best when there are no immediate threats. Now I got to overhaul my hardware before I can set out on my likely abortive assault.)

Alright, this is only tangentially related to Aurora (since it solves the one less surmountable gripe I had with it - the inability of my CRT monitor to adequately display the required resolution), but is the "stretch the desktop to however large you want and scroll if it exceeds the monitor capabilities" feature characteristic of all Radeon cards, or is it just the Radeon 9600 Pro that's so special? I've recently acquired it as an "only option" after nine years of following NVidia, so I'm mildly curious.

I'll ask something on-topic once I get far enough in the game to have a definite question about something.

Most modern discreet video cards have that option, however, most integrated chipsets on laptops/netbooks (which most of us are having trouble with Aurora on) are intel which most don't offer that function built-in.

So I don't suppose anyone would know why my game is advancing only 60 seconds every time I hit any time-advancement button?

I have auto-turns turned on and it just repeatedly adds 60 seconds, it's been going for hours now.

NPRs are being dick near you?

Try adjusting the sub pulse to one day.

Possible bug.

That would defeat the purpose of the sub pulse. oO

Tried setting sub-pulse to a day, and it's still doing 60-second increments...

What are your guys ideas on PDCs? Have you had better with many weak ones on different planets, or strong expensive ones on fewer?

depends on the size of your freighters and/or production capabilities.

Overhead is less for bigger ones, but also means fewer targets to shoot at.

I have yet to form any strong opinions on PDCs.

My opinion, is that they need troop transports.

The AI are having a battle without you.

Check by turning on SM mode, clicking events, and selecting "combat only" in the filter.

Yeah, 'Increment length adjusted due to imminent action. This may involve two NPRs fighting.'
'Increment length adjusted as a ship is within firing range'.

So how long will this continue? It's been going on hours.

I dont know, that what auto turns are suppose to let you breath through. Try posting this question on the aurora forum in bugs.

I dont have a damn clue on PDCs. I'll know much better once they get used. Until then they're just guesses at what will be effective.

I am however making use the inner astroid belt for defense by setting up a dozen of PDC on attack vectors from the jump points and the orbit of earth.

Beacon: go into SM mode again, and doubleclick one of the events where you see an enemy NPR fighting another. Remember, it's events, then select "combat only". You should see that combat stuff of the two races.

From there, you should be teleported to their organization screen stuff. Go into their aliens view and SM change their relationship to a positive number.

Simple fix and should alleviate your frustration.
