Give orders something like this for your tankers

move to refinery taskgroup
refuel from refinery taskgroup
move to planet
unload 90% fuel

set on repeat

I'll test that out.

I'll test that out.

You could also do what I'm planning and have the harvesters built with ~100m litres of fuel capacity, so that even if the orders get screwed up, you probably won't have to halt production.

Massive fuel capacity isn't a problem on a platform. Even only 10 fuel modules (500 tons) gives you 1/2 a million fuel capacity.

If you also set your ships on a slower than maximum speed, I believe they use less fuel so make them use a speed so the trip takes around the time it takes for the harvesters to make 90% of the tanker's capacity, so you don't waste as much fuel having the orders on cycle.

There's something horrifying about genetic modification in this game.

Right now I'm modifying my citizens to live on a world with .24G gravity. To make up about 5% of the population required to remove minority unrest, I'm going to ship about 160 million people over there and modify them to live on that planet.

But what would that really entail? They'd be subjected to a (probably incredibly painful) process involving god only knows what sorts of medical procedures... all to live on a tiny rock on the outer fringes of space...

Sounds dwarfy.

Also (unless you convert them somewhere else, and ship them over afterwards) a bunch will die before the geneticists can get to them.

Genetic modification would imply changing the DNA of unborn population prior to impregnation, so no actual mutilation of people.

Although I don't know how quickly the GM takes, as the above theory won't work if it is quicker than 12 or so years.

I park about 5m worth of orbital habitats in orbit and do the conversion on the destination planet.

The GM is instantanous, so I imagine it involves both genetic modification and possibly surgery. Who knows. It isn't just the babies though, its everyone. They get modded and they're back to work the next day.

Maybe they have the bodies ready and they just transplant the brains?

Quite a bit more horrifying than anything I'd been thinking about. Excellent.

I was going with complete body reconstruction.

Read the brain pattern and store it temporarily in a buffer while the body is broken down in an acid bath and fed to the new clone with the modified genetic structure. The clone is then flooded with hormones and sprinkled with qwik-gro fertilizer and the brain pattern is set in from the buffer. Poof.

Isn't that how normal colonization works?

No, we have the bodies frozen in cryopods, then we shoot them onto the planet, entering its atmosphere thaws out the frozen colonists and they land safely in one of the designated Landing Zones.
