For the people having problem with the 4.91 install, did you unzip the contents of "AuroraUpdate491.zip" into the directory where you installed? It comes inside the same zip where the setup files were, but you have to move them over manually. It contains a new executable and database, as well as the images that the game uses for planets, ships, flags, medals, and race portraits. The files in the setup haven't been updated in a while, so if you don't use the updated files from the zip you'll be playing a much older version.

The main thing the setup file installs is a bunch of dll and ocx files that the game requires to run. The only files in the Aurora folder that you won't overwrite with the new zip file are a few basic bitmap images (arrows and magnifying glass icons). The actual game is contained in the Aurora executable and Stevefire database.

-edit- Wow, their forum has a big delay on posting doesn't it... I posted in your thread over there about this and suddenly after I posted your messages show up about how you clear it up. It'll look weird when my message finally shows up replying to an already solved problem lol.

You're first few post need to be approved by a moderator, then when you hit five, it won't need this anymore.

Can anyone tell me where the radiation level is?

I'm looking at the Population and Productivity page, and the tutorial tells me to look for radiatation levels here....but i see none.
Systemgen window - (F9) -systemview from systemmaps/systeminfo from pulldown menu inn main screen-
scroll all the way to the right and you will find atmospheric dust and radiation for the planets in the selected system.

Yeah, about that screen, I get an error whenever I try to open it. Anyone know how to fix that?
EDIT: It's complaining I'm missing file MSSTDFMT.DLL, anyone know where I can get that?

I always get dll's from that place. You just have to endure spam, ads and some other stuff.

Does that fix require me to reboot? Because it doesn't work yet.

yea I needed that file too, you need to register it in console, (I forget the command I'm afraid I think it's mentioned in the OP) and then reboot.  That fixes the issue.

You will want to be in admin mode for this.

Put msstdfmt.dll in windows\system

In startmenu->run type

regsvr32 C:\Windows\system\msstdfmt.dll

Should be no need to reboot.

There is a good chance after this that you may run into a new error about missing an .ocx file, when opening some of the windows such as system view. For some some counter-intuitive reason this is most often fixed by unregistering the file.

Get the file in the same way you got msstdfmt.dll. Put it in windows\system32

Again you will want to be in admin mode for this.

In startmenu->run type

regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

(replace comdlg32.ocx with whichever ocx you needed)

To make sure everything is working, from the System map(F3) check you can open all of the windows using the buttons along the top of the screen without errors. (ignore Planetary markets, that has been disabled for a couple of versions)
