Actually, hyperspeed uses no more fuel than regular, but provides 10x speed.
Ahh ok. As I said i was not in a position to check.

No biggie on the beams on the hypercapable ships, you use the tohit of your targetting sensor,
your ship still gets the "tonotgethit" bonus from the speed towards incoming fire.

Besides you get into beam range that much quicker.

Idea for new hyperspace research line: Reduction in the hyper-field limit around a large body. Reduce by 10% per level the distance you must be from a gravity well to operate hyperdrive.

Why in the galaxy are there so many Gliese X systems? I must have 3 dozen Gliese systems now.

Because you're using real world star names.

Q: Does renaming a system automatically rename all the system bodies as well?

I can? Really? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs

Oh, and my ASM ship can't set a target for some reason... Do you need actives aboard the ship to start firing? My sensor ships and my AMM ships can target the damn enemies but not the only ASM ships.

Not like it matters... I'm going to lose these piles of crap anyway, then I'm going to create a ship design from scratch. Start all over, with designs that actually work as intended.

If they're outside your FC range, or if they have ECM, they won't come up as potential targets for ships that aren't painting them with AS, IIRC. This might not be your problem, though.

1,000 ton ships, res 140 MFC. We're <500k km of each other. I probably need sensors.

This is why I tend to always use some sort of sensor on every military ship with a range a bit higher than the FC max range. This lets me use sensor ships to spot targets at extreme ranges while also preventing targetting annoyances.

Regarding the Barrackpur in my game: HAH. They were a single-system empire after all, it was just that they had a tiny 5 TH outpost hidden on a rock, so I hadn't completely conquered them.  ::)

One of the bastards came up right on my fleet to ram us, then I could fire at them with my REAL ASM missiles instead of bombarding them with AMMs (they have no armor or shields...). It destroyed itself and did 20 damage to one of my sensor ships, all of it being absorbed by armor. I love ramming attacks! :D

EDIT: ~6200 ton things came within about 104m km of my fleet, now my ASM ships can fire.

Hah, whenever enemy ships try to ram me, they miss repeatedly. This is why I always push engine tech and fuel efficiency hard; I'm on the Inertial drives while they're on Ion, even at 100% economy for them. I think I might up it to 150% or so for the sake of sport.

They had 1 column of armor and were 1000 tons versus my >7 columns and 4000+ ton ships. I knew they wouldn't do much, and I couldn't dodge them (10,000km/s versus ~1,700km/s doesn't stack up...) so I just let them hit me.

Also, the enemy ships have ECM 30 or more. How good is that?

EDIT: I have realized that 326 size 2 AMMs a ship isn't going to cut it, and I'm going to sport a pure-PD vessel in my fleets. What kind of turret should I use, gauss, railgun, or laser?
