So.. the Stable Wormhole just changed locations within the Thrud system, with my Woden II-B class Survey Crusier still hanging out near the Sol Jump Point.  No contacts yet, which is good, and its been months since I first found it.  I'm working on designing a missile frigate, the first military combat ship I've made with this game.

Also, guys, I have a question about power plants (used for my Meson PDC's I'm building) - Do the power plants require fuel? If so.. I've made a wee error.  One of my PDC's is already whining about not having any fuel, so I'm thinking I did make a mistake.

Edit 2: Ah, looks like its just because the first PDC had a minor design error that included a useless fuel tank.. the 2nd PDC I built, using a modified copy without a fuel tank, isn't complaining at all.

I believe powerplants run for free.

Could I technically make a new species, live them on Mars with some infrastructure and other stuff, will they revolt and slowly build up to kill me?

I'm not sure, it be possible, but your own generated species are the same empire as you.  So it'd be the same as a regular human colony revolting.  I don't believe it's possible, but they can get extremely upset and refuse to work.  However, I believe with Starmaster codes you can make them separate.

If you're dealing with Invaders and already have some meson tech, I'd start churning out meson FACs. Unless you've already hit mid-level missile tech and have a substantial wall of battle, you probably won't be able to wear them down like that. Meson FACs will autopenetrate their shield, which are otherwise a pain to break, will have at least a chance of outrunning plasma torps, and are cheap enough that losses won't hurt nearly as much. Plus, they will build fast and don't need much shipyard capacity. While you hold the line with those, keep researching until you  get tech for a good missile cruiser with a really heavy load of launchers. At least, that is what I would do.

I still haven't run across any of them, even though that wormhole's been open for ages.  I'm still at a low tech level, but I'll get those meson-armed FAC's up as soon as I can..

Uh oh.. I think they're here..

Looks like my sensor ship's thermal sensors were too weak to detect this smaller ship that passed through.  It's moving at 8000 km/s..  two later, and larger, contacts WERE caught by the ship.  I'm suprised they didn't spot my own ship..

Right... So I'm trying to create a carrier loaded with smaller ships and said smaller ships are loaded with marines. How would I go about that?

Also, what do I need to store fighters? Hangars? Is it limited to one up to 1000 tons or can I fit 4 250 ton fighters in one?

Quick question related to building ship parts. If I build all the required pieces for one of my ships, how much time would that cut down on assembling the ship itself? Also when the spoilers usually show up?

So, help me Bay12.

I've installed the game it runs perfectly... but there is one small problem. The windows don't fit vertically on my screen and I'm at the highest resolution my card supports. The wiki suggest a program: 360 Desktop, but the site is offline as far I as can tell and I can't find any mirrors or any alternatives in the official forums so... help me, Bay12ers, you are my only hope.

Did you try Reduced-Size Windows? It's in one of the main menu options. Can't tell you which one off of the top of my head, sadly.

That seems to fix it, save for one small issue: the toolbar blocks some buttons.

Sure, I could just move it around the screen as needed, but I'd rather not go through the pain of moving all my shortcuts around every time I play the game.

You using Windows 7? Right-click the toolbar, Properties, check the box that says Auto-Hide Toolbar. You just some some more screen space.
