Now that I think of it... it was a little disrespectful. Thing is, I didn't want to go around bothering him for something so trivial as me screwing around a little.

Unless I view Steve wrong, and he's the kind of guy who likes responding to every single message?

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

What was this commertial build rate bug? i haven't really noticed any problems with build rate, though i always build the engines and etc first so the rate cuts down by 75% or whatever and seems reasonable enough.
EDIT: yeah ok i just searched the forum, aparrently it's a thing, i'll check my game...
a shipyard with 40500 capacity has 532 mod rate, one with 40000 has only 529 mod rate, it seems right, i'll just patch it...
"will not affect saved games"
ok well fuck you steve :/
generated 2 games, one in 5.52 one in 5.53, both have shipyards with 64000 capacity and 3 slipways, both have mod rate of 456 which is the same as a naval one with 6400 capacity, i'll just build something and see how long it takes.
Ok so, unpatched the ABR is stuck at 200 which will take 2.5 years to finish a 36kton ship, patched it says 563 ABR with a one year completion rate....
OK i'm sold, this bug sucks.

I think that means it won't break them.  I hope?  Can someone confirm the meaning?

Well I patched it and my save didn't break. I don't know if it affects it because I didn't test but I'm pretty sure it does.
EDIT: I just read the post a little better. 'Does not affect' seems to imply that it indeed doesn't affect it :P
Although I did answer the sane question on the aurora forum with yes (it fixes save games) and nobody corrected me.

I really have no idea now so I'll just start a new game ..

It doesn't break your save game but it doesn't fix the save game, it's ok though the game i'm currently running is really just a test anyway.

Eh? It certainly fixed the commercial shipyard bug in my current game.

Now I just need to find the wealth to sustain the additional 14500 combined build rate on my commercial shipyards, heh.

Oh my jebus, this game is confusing. But the most annoying thing is that some of the windows are cut off. I chose the smaller screen option, and it helped a little bit, but some buttons are still cut off. Any help?

I'm also looking for some guides of some sort...

Try ResizeEnable.

As for guides, there are the kinda outdated tutorials on the wiki. The game hasn't gotten much tutorial attention...

Lots of people know how it works, everyone is just too lazy to write a good tutorial - me included :P

Yup... he probably keeps a list of people.  To keep tab of who shouldn't be relied on for bug reports and what-not.  And considering it, none of the people that got it 'in the wilds' got the full disclaimer/request, just tidbits of it.

Overreaction?  Probably not, he has had problems with 'bug reports' related to players screwing with stuff and inadvertently breaking things(not knowing how they broke the game), sending him on wild goose chases.

Result: Accomplishment of absolutely nothing in exchange for a lot of effort/time, probably accompanied with a touch of frustration and anger.

All you have to do is ask for the password... though, looks like he'll be less willing now...  How many devs out there even give the option for the player to screw up the codeplay with dev options?

I'm thinking I need an install guide, right now... I installed the 4.91 release, got it to its own folder, all that jazz, then downloaded the 5.50 patch (it contains the 5.53 one, right?), and tried to extract it to the Aurora folder. However, as I imagined, it wouldn't work for some reason concerning administrator access or something (I actually have no idea what is wrong with it), so I just manually dragged the files in the patch into the folder and chose to replace the old files.

Seems like an okay amount of things works so far, but when I click on some things, errors pop up saying that I am missing some random files. When I click on the Sol>Earth flowchart thing on the left side of the population and production window, I get some normal errors that don't crash the game, and then I get an error that DOES crash the game. No real idea what is wrong, but I feel that the biggest part of this game isn't understanding it, it is getting it to work without stupid crap.

Yeah Resizeenable did nothing but let me screw up all the buttons and sizes of buttons of the windows. It makes it unplayable if you try to resize it.

The 5.50 patch does NOT contain the 5.53 one. 5.50 < 5.53 after all.

To install aurora, you need to go from the last full release.

So, 4.91 full release, then install the 5.50 patch, and THEN install the 5.53 patch. (Links go to relevant forum threads).
