I'm a little overwhelmed with designing missiles.  Does anyone have a simple missile design for use in a PDC?

What's the purpose of the missile? Exploding ships or exploding other missiles?

Does it matter if I'm just building a PDC to provide protection value for a planet?

If that's all just stick some mesons, beam fire control and active sensors in the thing.

If all you want is PV you don't even need missiles, just slap launchers on it and tell your civilians its a missile defense base. :D

Also assign a public affairs guy in the fleet office. They can spin your ships to the public to look better than they are, increasing the PPV in their eyes.

"Oh yea, this here missile base has 500 launch tubes. It could launch enough missiles to level every city on the planet in a minute. We're the most well protected planet in the region." Just don't tell them it has no magazines and your missiles are empty casings.

We need the ability to haul in asteroids under a certain size into a ship then break them down to nothing, extracting the minerals instead of needing mines or ships with asteroid mining modules on them.

But thats the whole point of an asteroid mining module.

That and the asteroids in the game are way too big for that. Even the tiny ones are over 10 trillion tons. Try fitting that in a cargo hold.

I posted an LP with my scenario over here http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=92581.0

First one I've done, so it's probably not very good. Reads like a personal log from the perspective of an "expedition leader", I just took notes as I played then posted it.

The game went excellently though. An amazing amount of action in the first year. I already used up half my ordnance fighting aliens.

10 trillion tons? That's insane. Nevermind then.

I'll give it a read in a bit. I started out the scenario but think I am going to start over now that I have a handle on the situation and ships available. The RNG wasn't nice to me either, no planet of less than colony cost 10 in 7 explored systems.

Instead of breaking the asteroids down, there just needs to be a mobile mass driver module you can put on ships, so the mining ships can automatically launch that stuff as they mine it.

It's just not worth the busywork of sending freighters to collect the piddly little traces of minerals on the asteroids right now IMO, unless you're really, really hard up for a specific mineral.

I was tempted to extract the 1000 1 cost corundium from an asteriod i found untill i finally got around to exploring jump points, now my plan is to shift half my mines to a decent duranium/corundium planet there, ship my leftover infrastructure and lots of factories to a cost 2 world there and just spam build automines insystem...
Not sure what i'll do next, i might just build a ton of survey ships and look somebody to play with.l.
EDIT: laptop randomly decided to freak out, overheating ram, missing HDD, corrupted registry, the works.
After lengthy reinstall process it looks like i'll be starting a new game :D

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I just scrapped my first survey ship because I got a better design (first time I play long enough to get a better design of a certain class >.>) and it couldn't be refitted because it was too different (I changed the engines and that was like half the ship).

I now have ship parts on Earth. Is there any way to use them for my other ships I'm building that use those same parts?

If you start building a ship that uses those components they will automatically be used.

If you have ship parts in your inventory, when you build a ship that uses one of those parts, it will use up that part and shorten construction time.

In fact you can pre-build a number of common ship parts.  On the industry tab, where it says "Construction Options" change it from "Installations" to "Ship Components".  It's useful to pre-build some common parts like sensors, engines, and the like.

Ok that is good to know. But there is no way to add the parts to ship already under construction I assume?

That's right.  It only checks the available parts when you start construction.
